November Events - The Conventions and Visitors Bureau
Press Conference - October 2005
Through Miguel Gonzalez Gonzalez adminnistrative director and Norma Alicia Lynn, public relations manager, The Convention and Visitors Bureau (Fideicomiso) summoned a press conference that was held in the Sheraton Hotel on this past October 12th with the purpose of making known the calendar of international events that will take place during the month of November and in which the Tourism Board is directly involved and contributing with direct support.
 Each one of the people responsible for each of the events that will take place took the floor in order to share with the local, regional, national and international press meeting there, the complete description of the programs, as well as the details of the organization and above all what these developments represent for the destination and the community.
Since several years ago November stands out as being the month when the most spectacular events are held and this year it will start with the 3rd International Half Marathon of Puerto Vallarta that will be held on the 6th of November. For this year's race prize money of one hundred thousand Mexican pesos will be awarded in five categories and it is predicted that approximately one thousand five hundred participants will partake. Carlos Arceo, who organizes the marathon, mentioned that the economic income that this event will give to Puerto Vallarta is calculated at between four and five million Mexican pesos, which will be generated on a weekend through the sale mainly of lodging services, transportation, tourist excursions and food.

The Film Festival of Puerto Vallarta will take place from November 7th to 12th where commercial and independent movies of the United States, Canada, Mexico and other Latin-American countries will be shown. This will be an excellent opportunity to observe the diverse forms on how different cultures address cinematography as well as the set of social, cultural and psychological problems
Benjamín Suárez took the floor in order to distinguish that this year prizes and special acknowledgments will be awarded, amongst which the Maverick prize for best director stands out, as well as the Richard Burton prize for best actor and actress, the humanitarian Elisabeth Taylor prize awarded to the group or the institution whose work benefits the community, the Emilio prize for best picture and two special acknowledgements for Roger Corman and Peter O´Toole.
Parallel to this, seminars and conferences will be given on production, casting and screenplay writing. These will be taught by famous personalities of the worldwide cinematography. Of course during this occasion premieres of national films will be shown, as well as debuts of an author movies and commercial films. The one in charge of scheduling the movies is the office of Angelino conducted by John Fitzgerald and Match Levine, who have done extraordinary work as directors and enhanced festivals such as the Festival of the American Film Institute, the Santa Barbara Film Festival in California, the Palm Spring Festival and the Film Festival in Los Angeles.

 Starting on November 10th until November 20th, the 11th Gourmet Festival will be held, which throughout the years has consolidated as the event that by itself is the most efficient one in contributing to the diffusion of the image of our destination. What started as an event with the purpose to bring together local and international chefs to share and to exchange ideas and experiences, hoping to generate new alternatives and to enrich the culture of good food, today has turned into a truly international fiesta of glamour and taste!
During his intervention Mr. Heinz Reize, who together with Thiery Blouet and Roland Menetrey was one of the founders of the festival, shared with a lot of emotion the details of what this year's festival will be like, pointing out emphatically that nothing would be possible without the dedicated participation of the sponsors. In addition to believing in the festival, they are true believers that Puerto Vallarta has it all as a tourist destination and therefore deserves all the support by everyone!
This year the enthusiasm of the organizers has been manifesting like never before and one of the main celebrations will be the presentation of the finest creations of gourmet cuisine which will be prepared by prestigious and acclaimed national and international chefs. Another event, which rapidly is consolidating itself as an efficient contribution means for the diffusion of our destination amongst an international market of high purchasing power, is the golf tournament called Golf Cup Puerto Vallarta that will have its fourth consecutive edition this year from November 10th to 13th.
 Mr. Antonio Palacio, founding member of the organizing committee mentioned that after three years of arduous work, the organizers are observing how a productive inertia has been generated which has been fundamental in the sponsors supporting them like never before. This year the golf tournament will distribute prize more than six hundred thousand US Dollars in prizes that will be distributed between the winners of the different categories of professionals and amateurs.
National and foreign male and female golf players are invited to register their participation before the 5th of November. The limit of participants is 125 players. The tournament will be held on the championship golf courses of El Tigre Golf Club in Nuevo Vallarta and the Nicklaus Vista Vallarta Golf Club, considered at present one of the most spectacular and challenging golf courses in Mexico.

From November 16th to 19th Puerto Vallarta will dress up elegantly because the International Sailfins and Marlin Fishing Tournament will take place for its fiftieth consecutive year. Long before the majority of those present at the press conference arrived at our city, this tournament already had a history and it was the event that by itself positioned Puerto Vallarta as a center of international attention. Many people have contributed through more than fifty years in order for the tournament to stay alive - in spite of very difficult years - and in order for this year's tournament to be stronger than ever.
Mr. Francisco Avalos Munguía, president of the Fishing Club of Puerto Vallarta described in detail every one of the activities that will be carried out during the tournament, emphasizing especially that the promotion achieved for the destination through the participation of media like television which is covering the event in its totality since last year, deserves special attention and acknowledgement at a time when the competition between world-wide tourist destination is constant.
Just like every year many of the participants will arrive from various regions of the country such as the United States of America and Canada. However this year it has also been confirmed that anglers native to England and other European countries will participate. The expectation for the registration of participants also predicts that the record of attendance for the tournament will be broken. On this occasion the prize money that will be distributed amongst the winners will be more than two hundred thousand US dollars.  Since a few weeks ago the emotion in the port is constantly raising its level, even though the most spectacular thing that has happened until now has been the group of activities that will generate all these events. Nobody ever imagined that each day there are more sectors joining in order to assist in facilitating the achievement of these events, as well as mainly its efficient diffusion. A proof of this is the considerable contribution that ADEPROTUR (the time-share association) under its president, the engineer Juan Vela has made this year to the Tourism Board of Puerto Vallarta.
