The official campaign kick-off took place October 21 at the Boca Negra Beach, with the attendance of the governors from both states, Francisco Ramirez Acuña and Ney Gonzalez, and with the main purpose of raising awareness among the population on the importance of keeping the beaches of Banderas Bay clean.
Committee President Martin Vazquez Mendoza announced that in this permanent cleanup program five municipalities participate: San Blas, Compostela, Bahia de Banderas, from Nayarit, and Cabo Corrientes and Puerto Vallarta from the State of Jalisco.
He explained the idea is for every federal, state and municipal agency to join in this integral sanitation program permanently until the beginning of the rainy season, thus creating an institutional system to present a more likable tourist destination to the eyes of visitors.

Works will begin at Boca de Toamates, Boca Negrea, Flamingos, Malecon, Los Muertos Beach, Amapas, El Nogalito, Garza Blanca, Mismaloya and Boca de Tomatlan, in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta; while on the part of Cabo Corrientes, sanitation will carried out on the beaches of Yelapa, Las Animas and Quimixto, with the support of the Navy.

New Urban Development Plan, Well Supported
Provided By Ambito
The project involves city planning experts, the State Government, Engineers and Architects Bars, as well as other professionals. It is out for consultation and at the disposal of all sectors of society and the citizens to bring their input
The drawing up of the General Urban Development Plan (PDU for its Spanish initials), is in the hands of planning experts and it is supported by a specialized company, the State Government and the participation of the bars of architects and civil engineers and other local professionals, Urban Planning Director Carlos Manzano told a press conference.
He also pinpointed that the proposal of the new PDU has been put out for consultation and at the disposal of the different sectors of Vallartan society, such as associations and organizations, as well as hotels so there is citizen participation with their opinions and points of view, to make the necessary adjustments, since it is not an imposition.
“The purpose of putting a plan out for consultation consists of having everyone who has any bearing on a decision as to how we want our city for us to live in it. Evidently the proposal we are making is as supported as possible.
It is not something we are trying to impose. Simply and plainly we are giving some guidelines to city’s growth, which in time will be analyzed by those who know and we are willing to listen and to understand those points of view with a legal support so they are applied inside the plan.”
Manzano emphasized that the PDU’s public consultation is that the whole society is informed as to where the city is going and above all, the interest that the new development plan come into effect.
He said plans are perfectible and can be corrected or modified even after they have been approved, since there are partial plans that allow for a general plan to be adapted, which reflect general growth tendencies, and allow to consolidate all those actions that are being brought about in town.
Manzano emphasized that Vallarta doesn’t have much room to grow; therefore, it is tried to control growth at a rate of 4.8%, and to determine the space needed for that growth over 20-25 years, where urban infrastructure plays a significant role, like avenues must be created to communicate new poles of development.
He said the plan will be in public consultation for thirty days and he estimated that once the observations and corrections have been made, it will be submitted to the City Council for approval within a 40-day period.

CAPRI 37 One Class Racing Sailboat - DREADNOUGHT
By Captain Guillermo SEMEYN Cross. S/V L’ESCAPADA
The all women Capri 37 team from Vallarta with their tactician from MEXICO CITY descended upon Long Beach to bring an international flavour to this one class all women race held annually.
Given the heavy pedigrees of some of the other crews it is really inaccurate to say that the Vallarta girls were bringing an international flavour to the race as many of them have competed in international races spanning continents some even single handed. What we’re talking about here is ‘la crème de la crème’ of women sailors world wide.
So how did our girls do? Well in this writers eyes (and remember I compete against them every month aboard another Capri 37 named BELAT) I wished they had come FIRST if only, to assuage our egos but they did extremely well given the heavy pedigrees they were up against and returned with a FOURTH PLACE Trophy very respectful and we welcome them home victoriously.
