Puerto Vallarta Maintains Presence in Sister Cities
Provided By Ambito

Puerto Vallarta renews its presence in the most important markets of the United Sates. Municipal Tourism Director Luis Cerda Acuña recently held an important meeting in Miami with Mexican Consul Jorge Lomonaco Tonda.

The head of the Tourism department told a press conference that this meeting was held to present an attractive project to launch the promotional video on Puerto Vallarta, aiming at showing the destination’s attractions in its American sister cities. Cerda Acuña also said that there is a current cooperation agreement with the city of Coral Gables by means of which the Mexican consulate will seek the necessary sponsorships to distribute copies of the video among the Florida population.

Likewise, he went on to say, it is intended to take this project to other sister cities like Mission, Texas; Santa Barbara, California; Highland Park, Michigan and Tacoma, Washington. To this end, the involvement of the consulates in each region will be sought, so in coordination with the Municipality, the video is distributed in each city.
It is also intended that the promotion of Puerto Vallarta in each of its sister cities is carried out permanently, because it will signify a positive impact on the visitor influx into this Port from those cities, as it has happened with Highland Park, which has become an important tourist market.

The functionary also commented that he sent a request to the Mexican consul to acknowledge the sisterhood agreements entered into by our destination, since some of them lack the registration at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and by the end of the year, they are duly processed and have the pertinent legal certainty.

Thanks to the good disposition of Catherine Woodcock the insertion of a promotional Puerto Vallarta ad was made possible in the magazine Paso Firme Report International, which is distributed in several countries like Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Aruba, Dominican Republic, United States, Panama, Ecuador and Mexico.

Provided By Ambito

Close to 78 thousand sea turtle hatchlings are released back into the ocean on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, a fact demanding greater attention as to care and protection of the species. Doctor Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus, participating in the program Saturdays in Science, told the audience.

Doctor Cifuentes dictated a conference on “Life in the sea” on april 29, at the Coastal University Center Campus. The researcher said that there are 10 out of 11 species coming to Mexican coasts to reproduce. “This context gives us an idea of the importance of contributing to the care of the marine ecosystems”.

With 53 years of experience as lecturer on bachelor, masters and postgraduate levels, Cifuentes Lemus explained in detail the processes and life cycles in the oceans. He emphasized that there is a biodiversity 10 thousand-fold greater in the ocean than on firm land, and demonstrated how the ocean food chain ends with man. He also said that Mexico is among the top five countries in the world with the greatest biodiversity, along with Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and Malasya. In his conference he criticized the attitude of man towards life on earth, but put the emphasis on sea life.

As to the Bahia de Banderas, Cifuente Lemus said that this region sports a great richness of ecosystems, and stressed the fact that almost all the biomes of the country are represented here. “It is a highly rich environment; unfortunately our authorities are changing it for constructions that will unavoidably generate unbalance in the region”
He called on the children not to contribute to contamination of the seas, because it has already caused the death of many animals, altering the cycle of life in the sea.

Cifuentes Lemus received a commendation for his contribution to Saturdays in Science.

Provided By Ambito

At the opening ceremonies, the creation of a new Meteorology Center in Puerto Vallarta was announced

Once more, Puerto Vallarta dresses up to become the venue of the 15th Mexican Convention of Meteorologists, an event that brought together a number of important personalities and participants from Mexico and abroad.

The beginning of the convention’s activities was marked by the City’s Director of Ecology Benjamin Baumgarten Macedo, who attended the ceremonies in representation of Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor.

The under director of Ecology commented on the acquisition of a seismograph by the city, which is fully operational at the Volcanology and Seismology System of the University of Guadalajara. He went on to say that a new meteorology center can be installed at the station, and could be operational soon, because it is important to Puerto Vallarta to have these prevention points, and it would be regrettable to suffer the effects of natural phenomena such as hurricanes.

In turn, Deolegario Sansón Reyes, MS. President of the board for the Organization of Mexican Meteorologists, said that 2005 was a record year as to tropical cyclones in our country, which affected the Mexican southeast. On the same note, he said that the Organization of Mexican Meteorologists’ aim is to have applications regarding Meteorology and Climatology become profitable for society, since citizens today demand more realistic, accurate data and forecasts.

During the convention important lecturers are participating, like Doctor Michel Rosengaus, Director of the National Meteorology Center and representative for Mexico of the World Meteorological Organization; Lision Avila, a researcher at the National Hurricane Center in Miami; Meteorologist Jose Roberto Hernandez Lucero, representative of the Mexican Air Force’s Meteorological Service, Defense Ministry.
