Provided By Ambito
The program is to be implemented all over the municipality to improve the image and sanitation of streets.
The Department of Public Utilities kicked off the Clean Corner Campaign. As the title refers, its purpose is to maintain spaces designed as pick up points by the garbage pickup system.
According to information provided by the head of the dependency, Martin Vazquez Mendoza, this sanitationbrigade is made up of personnel of the public sanitation department, who are to withdraw from the street corners, whatever refuse the garbage truck may leave behind, caused by the tearing of garbage bags caused by stray dogs or automobiles, which upsets neighbors, besides the resulting bad image of the city streets.
Vazquez Mendoza said that some of the areas where the campaign is already in operation are La Aurora, 5 de Diciembre, Centro and La Vena, and affirmed that the same actions will be implemented throughout the municipality in a permanent fashion.
Finally, the director of municipal utilities exhorted the population to collaborate, seeking to favor not only the image, but the hygienic conditions of the streets.

Last Tuesday, June 6, at the meeting rooms of the Marriott CasaMagna Hotel, a ceremony was held to present charitable organizations of Puerto Vallarta with the proceeds of the 3rd International Festival of Altruism.
Kelly Trainor, United States Consular Agent in Puerto Vallarta conducted the ceremony accompanied by JosefinaNaya, representative of Marriott CasaMagna.
In attendance at the event were representatives of the participating restaurants of the festival, as well as other sponsors, to whom Kelly Trainor expressed her gratitude for their generous, great effort.
It was with justified pride that the organizers presented the results of this festival of altruism, which greatly surpassed every expectation. The turnout was of nearly 1700, and the proceeds reached $435,500.00 pesos, which represents a donation of $21,775.00 to each participating charity.
Some of those participating charities have already reported important new contacts and commitments of new volunteers as a direct result of their involvement in the festival, Mrs. Trainor announced, which is quite encouraging for charities to continue their everyday labor.
Each participating restaurant and sponsor was put in charge of handing a donation to a charity, thus underlining the participative character of the festival.
Likewise, the festival awarded commendations to those who make it possible, among them Sandra Phillips, a volunteer participating in the festival since its inceptive stages, and who, Kelly Trainor says, “helps me stay focused and on the right path”.
After the ceremony, sponsors, representatives of participating restaurants and charities posed for the commemorative photo.

Puerto Vallarta Hosts Water Organizations
Provided By Ambito
Water management systems are central theme of the encounter.
Puerto Vallarta is the venue for the Benchmarking for Water and Sanitation Companies seminar, which brings together companies from both the public and private sectors, just like the National Association of Water and Sanitation Companies of Mexico, the National Water Commission, and as coordinator of the event, the SEAPAL, Puerto Vallarta´s water and sewer company.
The welcome message was given by Francisco Javier Rojas Gomez, director of SEAPAL, who thanked the participants and said that holding seminars like this represent a significant advancement in creating a database that will help finding out what the best business practices are for water and sanitation companies, and in detecting areas of opportunity for operating agencies.
He said that among the objectives set for this seminar is guaranteeing the supply of the vital liquid by means of an optimum service that allows for its own sustainability in an efficient manner and reaching out to all the population.
He added that at this meeting important work objectives as to public health and environmental preservation will be established, limiting the participation of the public powers, thus guaranteeing the equality of conditions for providers of these services and their supply on the same level of quality.
Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor marked the official inauguration of the seminar, who commented on the importance events like this one have for Puerto Vallarta and Mexico on its way to consolidating itself as a leader in promoting quality services.
In attendance at the opening ceremonies were also Councilwoman Yolanda Cuevas Cortez, President of the City Council’s Water and Sewer Commission; Donati Vega as representative of CONAGUA and Salomon Abedrop Lopez, president of the ANEAS Board.

Puerto Vallarta to Become Cruise Base for Mexican Tourists in 2007
Provided By Ambito
National tourists will no longer have the need to travel to Los Angeles or Miami to take a cruise and make the trip back stopping over at Mexican or Caribbean beaches, because starting in late 2007, they will be able to embark in Puerto Vallarta Jalisco and enjoy a cruise north or south along the Mexican Pacific coast, within a first stage.
“For the first time ever, passengers will embark on a cruise ship departing from our country” said Francisco Martinez Narvaez, General Director of the Integral Port Administration (API) in Puerto Vallarta.
To this purpose, two new docking positions are being built, to accommodate ships up to 300 meters long. The works will be completed in November this year.
From then on, ships arriving from United States and Canada will no longer have to anchor outside the port basin.
Thanks to the new infrastructure city and port revenue will triple, by increasing 30% every year, equivalent to 35 million dollars. “Profits from this investment will reflect in less that one decade” Martinez has commented. The bet is that the cruise industry win Mexico can compete with Puerto Rico and American ports, as well as those in Europe offering cruises on the Mediterranean, not only as far as receiving ships but also in the number of tourists embarking.
