El Nogalito and Palo Maria Creeks Cleaned
Provided By Ambito

The Department of Municipal Public Utilities carries out cleanup of water courses in the municipality in order to provide dignifying spaces for the enjoyment of Vallartans and visitors, and collaborating to preventive sanitation actions in the fluvial bodies. Last Wendesday August 2 it was the turn of El Nogalito and Palo María Creeks’ banks to be cleared of refuse by sanitation personnel.

Martin Vazquez, head of the Department, said that during the cleanup journey it was made evident the little interest and commitment that predominates among the people who visit these natural recreational places, since one-and-a-half tons of garbage was picked up from both creeks.

Vazquez Mendoza also said that these types of tasks have little effect on citizens, and it is the citizens who should get involved in these activities by adopting simple attitudes such as cleaning after themselves when picnicking here; however, he emphasized that the department will continue to work in this type of action that result in great benefit for the natural environment of Puerto Vallarta. Finally, he convoked Vallartans and tourists to “pick up their garbage and properly dispose of it by putting it into the nearest garbage bin or taking it back home and have the garbage truck take it away.

Xiutla Celebrates 12-Year Anniversary with Gala Performance
Provided By Ambito

It was an intensely emotional evening at the Show Center of the NH Krystal last Friday, July 28 as the Xiutla Folk Ballet marked its twelfth anniversary with a Gala Performance.

The show began at 9:00, as students of the first, second and third levels took the stage. These are all aspirants to become members of the group’s first company. From that moment on, the audience was always in high spirits.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez, as well as DIF President Gloria Cordova de Gonzalez, Chief of Arts and Culture Department Manuel Santana Encarnación and Argentinean dance teachers Martha Balocco and Hugo Batistini. Gloria Palacios Ponce was also in attendance at the gala.

After the students’ demonstration, which included dances from regions such as Chiapas, Michoacan, Oaxaca and Guerrero, the first company finally took the stage to present their first international number ever, dances from Spain. Then, Professor Barrios Limon took the floor to thank the audience for a great turnout and introduce his coworkers Jose Luis Mendoza, Raquel Rodriguez, Teacher Dolores and Luz Joya.

Professor Barrios, as he is known, thanked Manuel Santana for the support from the Arts and Culture Department in putting on the show, and the municipal administration, headed by Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor, for making great dreams of young Xiutla dancers come true. “Thanks to your office and the great Vallartense community we have been able to achieve great things”.

The performance went on with the presentation of the Oaxaca program, the same one they presented at the Latin American Caribbean Summit in 1994. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Nuevo Leon program by the founding members of the Xiutla. These children started a great dream that today enjoys international prestige. Regional dances from Veracruz were reminiscent of the victory of Xiutla over 37 other groups participation it the Guadalajara Fiestas de Octubre, where they received the gold medal.

The program included a space for a regional Argentinean dance, a gift from Martha Balocco and Hugo Batistini to Professor Barrios, with dancers wearing original costumes from 1974.

During the intermission, Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez presented the Folk Group with a Citation. Members of the company were also presented with recognitions, accepted by Maestra Raquel Rodriguez, joined by two dancers. The ballet, in turn, presented the mayor with a top recognition created by the ballet itself, a medal that symbolizes the recognition of the ballet to the City’s unconditional support to the promotion of Mexican folkloric dance.

The Jalisco Program closed the evening. This program earned the Xiutla the National Dance Award in Toluca, Mexico State. This way, 280 dancers had been on stage, including students, dancers of the first company and a group of students from the Ixtapa district.

Provided By Ambito

Legislators, State Government and Municipal Dignitaries headed by Governor Francisco Ramirez Acuña were briefed on these important works

Last Tuesday State Governor Francisco Ramirez Acuña and the Urban Development Secretary, joined by Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaeñor and Deputies Enrique Garia Hernandez, Jose Maria Martinez and Salvador Cosio Gaona, paid a visit to the site where the Multiple Purpose Center is being built.

In the presence of representatives from the various sectors of local society and business, the details of this important work in the adjacent land to the El Salado Estuary were announced.

The head of the Urban Development Secretariat, announced that this work will be funded by the state government up to 100 million pesos in its first stage. So far, the sewer on Avenida Las Flores, the site control, geothermic and environmental studies, as well as the platforms of the public parking and the main building, are completed, as well as the service parking lot.

He pointed out that the total project will encompass 14 hectares, out of which the first stage covers 12 thousand square meters. The metal structure will begin construction within three months.

Sainz David explained that the construction of this center will not embody environmental hazards for the natural areas of the estuary, since it is being build on adjacent land to the “cushioning” area; therefore he stated “this is one of the reasons why in no event this site could represent aggression to the environment of the El Salado Estuary.”

Likewise, he added that the construction of this multiple purpose center is to boost the development of Puerto Vallarta by providing a new attraction for the city’s growth, a space that has been long-awaited by the different sectors of the municipality.

In turn, the governor said that these works are the result of joined efforts by the municipal and state governments to keep the promise to Puerto Vallarta to make this center a reality for the destination.

“Congratulations, because here we work together, the municipality and the government, to give the response Puerto Vallarta needs” Ramirez Acuña said.

He indicated that on these grounds only the Multiple Purpose Center is to be built. No commercial or residential developments have a place in this zone, which will be a grand park for Vallartans, to make this project one that agrees with the ecological condition of the place.

The first stage of the multiple purpose center is to be completed by the end of the year, and is built after the Expo Guadalajara.

The center will occupy 5 thousand square meters and 7 thousand square meters will be taken by the access deck.

This is a world of which the artist herself is part; and of which she can speak in first person.
