Municipal Government Negotiates 9 Million Pesos to Improve Tourist Strip

Funds were earmarked for preservation and sanitation of the coastal strip and the Safe Beach Program

In a recent event, the head of the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry in Jalisco Jose de Jesus Alvarez Carrillo, made the announcement that funds were earmarked, totaling over 8 million pesos, to acquire machinery and equipment for the permanent sanitation and preservation program, which is run by the Municipal Utilities Department. Funds for 1.3 million pesos were also earmarked to implement the Safe Beach Program, of which the Public Security Department is in charge. These actions are encompassed within the framework of the preservation and recovery of the federal zone.

In this regard, he added that these works derive from federal zone revenue, Puerto Vallarta being an important nucleus as to this concept.

The event was presided over by Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, Federal Zone General Director José Luis Gutiérrez Miranda and Environment and Natural Resources Ministry Representative in Jalisco Jose de Jesus Alvarez Carrillo.

Mayor Javier Bravo, in turn, said that these actions are part of the objectives proposed to maintain Puerto Vallarta on the level of importance it commands as international tourist destination.

“We know this is a joint effort” Mayor Bravo said. “We all want our town to be visited by people from within our country and abroad.”

In the same event, permit certificates were handed out to 23 tourist service providers in the tourist strip.

In attendance at the event were also Senator Eva Contreras Sandoval and the Chief of the Federal Zone’s Administrative Unit, Jose Manuel Díaz Zurita.

Tracomsa, Twice Charro Champion in Puerto Vallarta

Nuevo Leon team Tracomsa, headed by Noe Chavez, won the Charro Championchiop upon getting 387 points in a sold out Miguel “Prieto” Ibarria Arena, where a true lecture of great Charro skills was given by the three finalists. Team Tres Potrillos finished second with 368 points and Tepa (Tepatitlan) Rancho Nuevo was third with 326 units.

At the prize ceremony was Mayor Javier Bravo and Secretary of the Charro Federation Felipe Colin, as well as Municipal Attorney Alfonso Bernal Romero. Honorary Puerto Vallarta Charro Association President Miguel Ibarria Gonzalez was also in attendance, along with Councilwoman for Education Yolanda Cuevas Cortes.

They handed out checks for 140 thousand pesos to Tracomsa, 110 thousand pesos to Tres Potrillos; 80 thousand pesos went to Tepa’s Rancho Nuevo. Individual Champions received Charro saddles.

At four p.m. the competition finals kicked off, with crowded stands rooting largely for Tres Potrillos. Tracomsa was thirsty for triumph and Jesus Hernandez, the famous “Grapefrut” landed three ropes.

In turn, Rancho Nuevo’s Ignacio Anaya only made good on his third opportunity for 20 points. It was Juan Soltero that got the crowd on their feet, by roping the first two mares, but barely missing the third one.

Horse trying was for Noe Chavez with 35 points, Arturo Esquivias tested his horse for 33 points and Gerardo Fernandez, in an excellent 14-meter point earned 37 units.
Excitement continued in subsequent rounds, each making the competition thougher, and it only got better every time.

But in the end, the 387 points accumulated by Tracomsa were sufficient to make the team two-time champion in the National Charro Tournament.

Municipal Government Affirms Support of PYMES

32.5 million peso fund was created to finance micro and small businesses
A collaboration agreement was entered into by the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, represented by Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, and the Jalisco Fund for Business Support (FOJAL).

Joined by FOJAL General Director Luis Gonzqalo Jimenez Sanchez, Mayor Bravo undelined the importance of the signing of this agreement, since it has been established that it will seek to give credits for u to 32.5 million pesos to benefit Vallartans. Last year, the form of financing contributed to creating over 1000 new job positions.

In this regard he also emphasized that Puerto Vallarta distinguishes itself for being one of the municipalities have benefited from this program the most, and went on to say “I am very glad to learn that every peso the Municipality invests will multiply by five, thus bringing about a greater benefit for the families of Puerto Vallarta”.

In turn, the general director of the Jalisco Fund expressed his satisfaction for the commitment established by the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, which will contribute 1.5 million pesos to this fund of 32 millions destined to boost the economy of the destination. He noted the fact that 60 percent of the recipients of financing from the Jalisco Fund are women, who reveal themselves as important driving force behind the development of the state.

At the event were Councilman for Promotion and Economic Development Ricardo Rene Rodriguez Ramirez; Municipal Attorney Alfonso Bernal Romero, General Secretary Jose Emigdion Hurtado Rolon, Chief of Economic Foment Hugo Rojas Silva, and Municipal Treasurer Aurora Arreola Ureña.

Municipal Ecology Board Reinstalled

Government willing to work for protection of the natural legacy of Vallartans

Last Wednesday the Municipal Ecology Board was reinstalled, with the participation of the different sectors of society and Mayor Javier Bravo, which affirms the commitment of the municipal government to preserve the natural environment of Puerto Vallarta. In his message, the mayor said that there is willingness on the part of the government to support actions destined to protect the ecological environment. Proof of it is the reinstallation of the board whose actions will be directed by people truly committed to Puerto Vallarta.

Bravo Carbajal said that the priority tasks of this municipality is to make the mountains of Puerto Vallarta remain as a great legacy for future generations by decreeing a natural protected area, an objective set even before taking office as mayor, and toward which there is work being done on the federal and state levels. These actions are to stimulate the performance of the new municipal organization.

He also emphasized there are three documents being worked on, such as the Municipal Development Plan, the Urban Development Program and the Center of Town Plan. On which the participation of the board will be vital at defining the course for Puerto Vallarta’s future. “There is a will; we want you to join in this work so together we can do things to benefit Puerto Vallarta”, he emphasized.

Finally, the mayor reiterated his confidence and support to this board, which –he said- will take an important space in this government, because it will “echo his concerns and his work, to transform it into concrete actions for the good of Vallarta.”

Second "Roots of the Mexican" Meeting

For the first time ever in Puerto Vallarta, native Mexicans sing the national anthem in their mother language

On Tuesday, March 6, at the Coastal University Center Campus the Second Roots of the Mexican Meeting was held. It opened a space for expression for the cultural diversity of the indigenous communities living in Puerto Vallarta.
To mark the opening of the meeting, the national anthem was sung by Mexican natives in their mother language. At the meeting were represented five ethnic groups: Huichol, Nahuatl, Otomi, Triquis and Zapoteco.

On the first day of the meeting, students, locals, national and foreign tourists gathered to admire an exhibition of popular arts around the bandstand of the university campus, where their dances, music, handicrafts and gastronomy were presented.

The University of Guadalajara, through the Coordination of Extnsion and the Press Department, opened a space to ethnic cultures of the region to publicize the traditions, customs, and cultural expressions of the indigenous communities living in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta. It is estimated that members of at least 21 ethnic groups from all over the country live here.

During the second day of the meeting, there was a dialogue of the five ethnic groups and university students where they discussed their expressions, needs and cultural contributions.

Later that day, a Nahuatl dance group performed at the Edulab auditorium.

Civil Protection Council Announces Easter Operation

Last Monday, the Civil Protection Municipal Council assembled to announce its Yearly Operational Program for 2007, as well as the 2007 Easter Operation Program.

According to the agenda, the integration of the Council was reviewed and updated. The council is made of representatives of both civil and military authorities, federal and state government organizations, and rescue teams.

Later, the Yearly Operational Program was presented to the Council and approved. The program includes actions and operations regarding Easter Holiday season, the tropical storm season, Day of the Dead, Christmas Holiday season, mass events and general emergency service, among others.

Within this framework, the Municipal Operation Program for Easter holiday was announced. This program will be implemented on April 1 to 14, under the coordination of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit, to the purpose of optimizing the assistance mechanisms to aid the population during any emergency caused by a socio-organizational phenomenon.

The objective of the operation is to implement preventives measures and actions to reduce or eliminate risks in the municipality, and to establish the mechanisms of operation and coordination, aiming at safe-keeping the physical integrity of persons, their properties and their surroundings during the holiday season and the risks arising from this activity.

It was resolved to hold a workshop-meeting to analyze the logistics of the operation.
At the Council meeting were Mayor Javier Bravo, president of the board; Councilmembers Santiago de Jesús Centeno, Claudia Veronica Gomez, Luis Raul Melin Bañuelos and Jorge Luis Garcia Delgado; City Hall’s Genearl Secretary Jose Emigdio Hurtado Rolon, DIF President Aleyda Bravo Carbajal, representative of the military forces in Vallarta and organizations that make up the council.

Brazil’s Mauricio SantaCruz and his team on Bruschetta (left) are the 2007 J/24 World Champions. Bruschetta led the boat parade through Nuevo Vallarta Harbour to cheers and horns on the final day of what everyone is calling “The Best Worlds Ever.”
Sitting in top spot all week, SantaCruz went into the final day needing only to hold off the three USA boats that have been chasing him since Day One. Mike Ingham’s Brain Cramp (12-7) finished in second place with Mark Hillman (28-4) driving WIP in third.

Chris Snow on Bogus, who was in the top four most of the week, dropped to 8th place after 36-8 finishes today

SantaCruz retired after the first race, the Championship in hand after his 18th place finish.

Japan’s Cerezo (14-16 -11-5-10-4-12-(18)-5-12) driven by Yasutaka Funazawa had consistent finishes and beat out Siesta helmed by 2006 second place finisher at the Melbourne Worlds, Wataru Sakamoto, who had both a BFD and a second place finish today.

This last day saw some of the best racing of the week with10 knot winds and mostly flat seas. USA’s Tundra Rose had its best finishes of the week with two bullets. Mexico’s Kenneth Porter sailing S, who has been in the top 15 all week, maintained his third place through all legs, with Argentina’s Chimera driven by the team of Alejo/Gonzales working their way up through the fleet to challenge Tundra Rose at the finish.

In Race Two, Siesta led around all the marks, followed closely by Tundra Rose and Argentina’s Tag Heuer driven by Grimaldi/Contessi. In a tight finish, USA’s Tundra Rose edged out Japan’s Siesta to finish the Championship in 39th place.
The 2007 J/24 UBS World Championship Vallarta closed with the Awards Presentations as the final official event.

Mayor Javier Bravo Inaugurates New Plaza Lazaro Cardenas

The mayor recognized the quality work and commended the builders. He congratulated Emiliano Zapata residents on the transformation undergone by the place

“What is evident is not to be judged upon” Mayor Javier Bravo said at the inaugural ceremony of the Plaza Lazaro Cardenas, which instantly became a splendorous attractive space, worthy of Vallartans to enjoy.

He was joined by members of the Municipal Council, and in the presence of investors and executives of the construction company in charge of the construction, businessmen and residents of the “romantic zone”, headed by the Neighbors Association, Puerto Vallarta’s first councilor praised the great work of the builders, who constructed a work that “dignifies this space and enhances the beauty of the place, with a parking lot that will benefit all the zone”.
 
This public work deserves our congratulations for the investors, the construction company, the residents of the zona romantica, because what is plain to see needs no judgement”, the mayor said, moments before proceeding to the cutting of the ribbon which marks the official opening of the new plaza and parking lot.

The inauguration ceremony preceded the commemoration of the Petroleum Expropriation carried out by President Lazaro Cardenas in 1938.

Earlier, hotelier, founder of the Neighbors Association of the Colonia Emiliano Zapata, Enrique Carothers Barreto, expressed his satisfaction and for the conclusion of the long awaited work, which will not only end the lack of parking spaces, but will improve the zone by integrating the tourist strip with the expansion of the Malecon.

Victor Zayas, president of Constructora Geminis remarked on the transformation brought about to the site, since there were those who thought it to be impossible, since the natural environment was respected, and further more, it was improved to the satisfaction of the ecologists who initially opposed the construction, now turned into an attraction.

The plaza and underground parking was built at a cost of 38 million pesos, and it can accommodate 182 vehicles.

At the inauguration ceremony were in attendance Council Members Claudia Veronica Gomez, Lizeth Franco Garcia and Andres Gonzalez Palomera, Deputy Jorge Villanueva Hernandez, investor-concessionaire Raul Muñoz Morfin, President of the Neighbors Association Andreas Rupprechter, Public Works Director Arturo Davalos, Social Development Director Salvador Reséndiz, and Social Communication Director Juan Carlos Peralta.
