Puerto Vallarta’s Municipal Folkloric Ballet “Xiutla” performed to a packed house in the Rosas Moreno Theater in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco. Xiutla was a special guest to the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the theater opening. It was a special present from the people and government of Puerto Vallarta.

Lafgos de Moreno’s Culture Department, chaired by Eduardo Mata, selected the Xiutla Ballet early this year to be part of the celebration, and issued the corresponding invitation. The program included the Choreographic Group Balanz from Guadalajara, a choir recital, our Xiutla, the Jalisco Symphony Orchestra and a mariachi concert as closing number.

Xiutla’s performance on stage was rewarded with a standing ovation and reaped expressions of admiration, such as “on stage they look so different!”, “but if they are only children!”, “they’re so young, and so professional!”; “I hope they come back soon!” among other expressions of recognition to our young dancers. The show went on for two hours, and the audience enjoyed each of the numbers, and the colorful costumes, so carefully tailored by the ballet’s wardrobe specialists.

Motivated by such an emotional response of the laguense audience, at the end of the show, Culture Director Eduardo Mata asked Xiutla Director Professor Barrios for an encore presentation the following day, to which, both Professor Barrios and the members of the ballet agreed. It is worth noting that the second night, the audience was even larger than the previous.

“It gives us a very pleasing sensation, to respond to Vallarta; every time we go out, to put the name of Vallarta high up, and carry the message from our authorities” Professor Barrios said.

The Xiutla has been invited to represent the state of Jalisco in the 22nd Regional Dance Festival to be held in Leon, Guanajuato, for 15 days starting September 9. Two guest states were selected this year: Sonora and Jalisco, and the organizing committee recommended the Xiutla to be the representative of Jalisco. “Which is a great honor to us” said Professor Barrios.

The City’s Culture Department in coordination with the DIF System and the Puerto Vallarta and Zapopan Chapters of the Rotary Club, as well as some members of the local private sector, will present one of the best choirs in the world. On September 3, the boy’s choir from Saint Florian, Austria, will give a benefit recital in the east zone of Plaza Caracol at 21:00 hours.

At a press conference, Head of Culture David Izazaga Márquez, made the announcement and added that the St. Florianer Sängerknaben is considered one of the best five choirs in the world and probably the one with the longest tradition, since it was established in 1071.

“As opposed to other children choirs, this Austrian group tours around the world offering benefit performances, which gives an added value to its appearances. They will do a tour of Mexico; they’ll be arriving in our country by the end of the month. Thanks to the local DIF’s connection with the Rotary Club of Zapopan, it was made possible that they come to our city after their Guadalajara concert”, Izazaga said.

After considering different venues for the concert, and consulting with the choir directors, it was decided that the best venue is Plaza Caracol, not only because of its acoustics, but also for its seating capacity.

In turn, DIF President Aleyda Bravo Carbajal and General Director Adrian Mendez, explained that 80 % of the proceeds will be donated to the Municipal DIF System.
“The funds will be earmarked for the first phase of the project “Day Nursing Home” seeking to aid families with elderly members, who can’t be properly taken care of because of working schedules and the like. “We want to provide this new type of service to the city” the president of DIF commented. Adrian Mendez explained that the project entails not only the expansion of the nursing home facilities, but also the integration of a new staff of geriatrician, psychologist, nurses and social workers to take care of the “Third age youngsters”.

Jalisco Beaches, Safe: Health Secretatiat
Provided By Ambito

Ten beaches in Jalisco are under constant monitoring by the health authorities of the state. Beaches of tourist importance were monitored on the 7 and 15 of August. Sanitary Regulation Director Juan Carlos Olivares Galvez said in a press release that although samples are to be collected during the first week every month, when results are higher than the norm established by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 500 enterococcus per 100 ml. monitoring must be repeated weekly for as long as it’s necessary, until values are back within normal ranges.

Since samples collected early this month (August 3) at the beaches of Quimixto and Boca de Tomatlan, turned out higher than normal, with 987 and 6, 131 enterococcus per 100 ml. respectively, it was necessary to practice weekly controls.
High indexes observed in these beaches, the functionary explained, required another test on August 7, which could only be carried out in Boca de Tomatlan, due to bad weather, and turned out normal, with 259 enterococcus per 100 ml.
As to Quimixto, the test had to be postponed till the 15th of August, and it yielded a result of 10 enterococcus per 100 ml. “Therefore, we can say that they are within the norm, and the warning sign can be removed from those two beaches” he said in closing.
