Charros celebrate their day with a cheerful and eye-catching parade

During the traditional parade our City Mayor highlighted the spirit of the young Charros for their performance in the National Charro Youth Championship.

Entoured by a colorful and traditional environment, City Mayor Javier Bravo last Friday joined the “Charro Day” celebrations where an eye-catching parade made a gala day for the city.

During this event, the City Mayor acknowledged the outstanding participation of the young Vallarta Charros during the National Charro Youth Championship 2007 in Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, and therefore gave them a “charro” buckle as a reward to their effort in this beautiful Mexican sport.

This way César Armando García Estrada, who won the first place on “Death Pass” performance (jumping from a tame horse to a wild one at full speed); José Miguel Ramírez Salazar, who won a second place on Bull Riding and Rosendo Parra Hernández, who won the third place in “manganas a pié” (lassoing wild animals on foot), all of them form the Asociación Infantil de El Pitillal.

During the event there were also awards for Rafael Rodríguez Pérez, from the Asadero, for his second place in “cala de caballo”, or display of horse’s education and obedience; as well as Daniel Ramírez Estrada and Eric Ramírez, from La Perla, for their second place as bull and mare riding, respectively.

The Charro group was integrated by eight associations: Charros de Vallarta, Pitillal, Las Juntas, Real del Zarco, La Perla, Playa Grande, José María Rodríguez, El Asadero, as well as the presence of the “escaramuza” (group of precision female riders) of Agua Marina, who gave us a sample of the riding excellence that goes with this discipline through riding acrobatics and lasso tricks. The celebration had the participation of 125 riders, headed by their Queen Mayté I.

Among the participants to this traditional treat were the President of DIF (City’s Integral Family DevelopmentAgency), Aleyda Isabel Bravo Carbajal; City Hall members Concesa Pelayo Arciniega, Claudia Verónica Gómez Quintero, Lizett Franco García and Ramón Aguirre Joya; el Secretario General, José Emigdio Hurtado Rolón, among other City Hall officers.

Permanent Clean-up campaign of City Beaches

The Public Services Office continues to work to maintain and improve the image of Puerto Vallarta.

The office of Municipal Public Services, through its Public Cleaning Department doubled its efforts collecting a great amount of garbage from several beaches of Puerto Vallarta, such as Playa Camarones.

Juan Pablo García Castillón, Director of Public Services, emphasized that the department under his responsibility will continue to work in order to comply with the City Mayor’s commitment to make Puerto Vallarta the cleanest of Mexican cities.

“We have achieved great advances and we know we cannot lag behind”, so all our activities are geared towards presenting our city’s best image to our community and to our visitors as well.

For his part Gustavo Ulloa Gómez, Cleanup Chief, indicated the importance of conducting such activities constantly during this period of the year, as rain carries with it all kinds of objects that look bad and block the drains.

Support for a Song Dedicated to Puerto Vallarta

Fruit of the inspiration of Pita Garduño, granddaughter of the first chronicler of Puerto Vallarta, Catalina Montes de Oca. Pita composed the theme enhancing the identity of the  vallartenses.

Yolanda Guadalupe Garduño Contreras, granddaughter of Doña Catalina Montes de Oca de Contreras, the first chronicler of Puerto Vallarta, composed a song dedicated to Puerto Vallarta, while it complies with the objective of promoting popular culture, its production will be backed by the administration of Javier Bravo Carbajal, City Mayor.

The autor of the musical theme registered as “Hymn to Vallarta” (or Vallarta Anthem), is the third generation of one of the oldest of Vallarta families, their women have become renowned for their writing and furthering the knowledge of the port’s history. Her grandmother, doña Catalina Montes de Oca, was named City Chronicler on the 26 of May 1983, she held on to it until her death on September 4th, 1986. Pita’s mother Yolanda Contreras Montes de Oca viuda de Garduño, was the co-author of the book “Puerto Vallarta en mis recuerdos”, a work that was translated to English in tis second edition by María Guadalupe “Pita”.

A personal effort by Pita Garduño that will be backed by the City Hall, presided by Francisco Javier Bravo Carbajal, to come through with a production that involves other Vallarta artists, as the arrangements were done by Arnulfo Ulloa Godínez and it will be sung by the singer Chela Ortíz.

It is a non-profit project, “I do not do it for fame or royalties, but for my love for Vallarta”, said the composer, as she explained that this song started to germínate forty years ago but since the latest stages of my father’s life, Carlos Garduño, who died a few months ago, “I wanted to leave testimony of my love for Puerto Vallarta”.

Sharing with her mother her yearning to crystallize her dream and her joy at the City Hall’s support for the Project, she trusts this musical production will serve to infuse the locals a greater bond with their city, like she, who has never lost her roots.  The project will also help to promote popular culture as committed by the government of Javier Bravo.

The song has already been registered as intelectual property as  “Himno a Vallarta” under the pseudonym of Pita Garduño and she is quite satisfied to be able to promote a greater identity among Vallartenses, therefore the positive response from the Municipality to a Project furthering the popular culture of the Vallartenses.
