Puerto Vallarta's Municipal Folkloric Ballet "Xiutla" performed to a packed house in the Rosas Moreno Theater in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco. Xiutla was a special guest to the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the theater opening. It was a special present from the people and government of Puerto Vallarta.

Lagos de Moreno’s Culture Department, chaired by Eduardo Mata, selected the Xiutla Ballet early this year to be part of the celebration, and issued the corresponding invitation. The program included the Choreographic Group Balanz from Guadalajara, a choir recital, our Xiutla, the Jalisco Symphony Orchestra and a mariachi concert as closing number.

Xiutla’s performance on stage was rewarded with a standing ovation and reaped expressions of admiration, such as “on stage they look so different!”, “but if they are only children!”, “they’re so young, and so professional!”; “I hope they come back soon!” among other expressions of recognition to our young dancers.

The show went on for two hours, and the audience enjoyed each of the numbers, and the colorful costumes, so carefully tailored by the ballet’s wardrobe specialists.

xiutlaMotivated by such an emotional response of the laguense audience, at the end of the show, Culture Director Eduardo Mata asked Xiutla Director Professor Barrios for an encore presentation the following day, to which, both Professor Barrios and the members of the ballet agreed. It is worth noting that the second night, the audience was even larger than the previous.

“It gives us a very pleasing sensation, to respond to Vallarta; every time we go out, to put the name of Vallarta high up, and carry the message from our authorities” Professor Barrios said.

The Xiutla has been invited to represent the state of Jalisco in the 22nd Regional Dance Festival to be held in Leon, Guanajuato, for 15 days starting September 9. Two guest states were selected this year: Sonora and Jalisco, and the organizing committee recommended the Xiutla to be the representative of Jalisco. “Which is a great honor to us” said Professor Barrios.
