Finance Executives Convention in Puerto Vallarta
Provided By Ambito - Alan Yamil Hinojosa

The Sheraton Bugainvilleas Hotel and Convention Center is the venue for the Annual Convention

Last Thursday morning, in the convention center at the Sheraton Bugainvilleas Hotel, the 35th National Convention of the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF, Spanish initials) began.

The opening ceremonies were presided over by IMEF President Sergio Ruiz Olloqui, State Government Finance Secretary Oscar Garcia Manzano, representing Governor Emilio Gonzalez Marquez; Municipality’s Secretary General Jose Emigdio Hurtado Rolon, representing Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal; and Vice admiral Jose Santiago Valdez Alvarez, Commander of the 8th Naval Zone; among other dignitaries.

IMEF President Sergio Ruiz Olloqui delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremonies. He wished all participants success and explained that due to the events in Tabasco , President Felipe Calderon’s agenda changed in recent days, and that is the reason why he appointed Education Minister Josefina Vazquez Mota to represent him at the convention events where his attendance was scheduled.

Oscar Garcia Manzano took the floor to deliver a message from the state governor. He bade attendants to the convention welcome and praised the work of the Finance Executives Institute over the last 40 years. “I was a member thirty years ago” he commented. He highlighted the importance of the finance executive’s work today, which brings about better public organizations and private enterprises. A better management of finances, he said, reflects as greater competitiveness and better life conditions to all society.

He paused to comment that our country is one of contrasts, and cited the fact that Guadalajara is the second city in the country as to competitiveness, while Jalisco, as state, takes position number 16. “You take away Guadalajara , and where does Jalisco stand?” -he said.

He also spoke of the fiscal reform which, he said, represents greater transferences to the states. States are charged with improving their local finances, by means of improved tax revenue via administrative simplification. At the end of his address, Garcia Manzano made the official statement by which the convention was formally inaugurated.

After the convention was inaugurated, the dignitaries presiding the ceremonies visited the adjacent hall to also inaugurate the Expo Imef, where sponsors and related companies were exhibiting their products and services. IMEF President Sergio Ruiz Olloqui and State Government Finance Secretary Oscar Garcia Manzano were charged with cutting the symbolic ribbon to mark the opening of the expo.
