Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, said at the signing ceremony of the Municipal Program for the Accomplishment ofMillennium Development Objectives “Unity is the most important to successfully carry out this program. It is what is going to allow us to get consensus as to the objectives, to defineplans, to establish strategies and to generate results”.

In the presence of the Resident Coordinator of the UNO System in Mexico Arie Hoeckman, the mayor highlighted that personal, group or ideological interests must be set aside, by considering that this is the moment to initiate a stage that consolidates team work for positive results, since by walking in the same direction and uniting efforts, “we’ll be able to materialize each of the proposed objectives”.

In the year 2000 –the mayor went on to say- our country signed the Millennium Summit Declaration, a document where the specific commitments were defined to work for equal opportunities and to improve the quality of life of the needy; commitments the municipality has embraced and incorporated into the government program, implementing immediate actions so that every civil servant knows them, understands them and embrace them.

Bravo Carbajal, joined by DIF President Aleyda Bravo Carbajal, representatives of the different political parties, City Council members, municipal officials and members of the different sectors of the municipality’s society, pointed out that by adopting these commitments it is sought to create opportunities to attain social justice, to channel resources to generate learning processes for development with the human approach that characterizes the people of Puerto Vallarta.

In turn, Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz, head of Social Development, was charged with the presentation of the program and emphasized that it is fundamental to execute actions on a local level, where the municipal government will be responsible of such tasks, based on the capacities of each region, but always involving the different sectors of the population, in order to work as a team to favor the commitment to development.

He said that assessment actions will be undertaken to guarantee the efficiency and ability of the program, implementing actions to improve local government capability, participation of the civil society and the private sector, in order to generate the commitment to launch the Cities of the Millennium campaign, where citizen and government tasks will manifest to reach the objectives established in said document.

During the event, UNO Resident Coordinator Arie Hoeckman sworn in the members of the program’s Social Council, and called for all sectors of the population to work together to make it possible to reach the objectives to benefit the community, besides the fact that Puerto Vallarta is the first municipality to join in these tasks.

Last December 8, Buenaventura Hotel celebrated its 25th anniversary with a complete renovation of its facilities and an upgrade of its rating, by passing from a 4 to a 5 star rating. The renovation included public areas and consumption centers, as well as every room. Likewise, the hotel’s name was also updated, and it is now known as the Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa.

This meaningful transformation of a hotel that’s emblematic of Puerto Vallarta was celebrated with a cocktail party at the new beach club, attended by hotel owners and their families, Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, Chief of Tourist Projects and Investments Leticia Baca as representative of Tourism Director Marcelo Alcaraz., president of the Chamber of Comerce, Maximiliano Lomelí and president of Hotel and Motel Asociation of Puerto Vallarta, Oscar Rivero.

In a brief yet emotional ceremony, Hotelier Abel Villa expressed his thankfulness to all who made this transformation possible, namely the Zamano and Nuñez families, travel agents and collaborators, and specially the hotel guests for their comprehension during the renovation period.

He went on to talk about the origins of the hotel, his father’s dream that he soon embraced as his own and which gave him access to the hospitality world, of which –he confesses- he knew very little. He set out to learn whatever necessary and over the years, the company expanded first with the acquisition of the Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and later with the construction of the Villa Premiere & Spa.

Mr. Antonio Zamano took the floor to honor the memory of the late Mr. Villa and Mr. Nuñez, and to highlight some important moments in the history of the Buenaventura hotels.

Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal in turn, congratulated the owners and their families on the reopening of the Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Spa and recognized the presence of the hotels in the history of Puerto Vallarta, as companies committed to the development of the destination, creators of permanent jobs, and always for the positioning of Puerto Vallarta in the international tourist scene. He wished the hoteliers success and affirmed the City’s support to future projects that will contribute to the destination’s development and the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants.

Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails in a festive atmosphere that bordered the momentous occasion.
