Flag Day Historical Ceremony
Within the frame of the celebrations of Flag Day, in an unprecedented event in Puerto Vallarta, the morning of February 24, City Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal headed the ceremony with a delivery of flags to 205 official schools of the municipality.
The event was held at the sports stadium Agustín Flores Contreras, in coordination with the 41st Military Zone and the 8th Naval Sector, aimed at strengthening the civic values of the community. “For the first time flags and registry were delivered to the educational institutions of our municipality” .
It was a transcendental act in which children were motivated to contribute to the aggrandizement of our municipality, state and country, since the National Flag “Synthesizes the effort of generations after generations of Mexicans who contributed with their struggle to give us this privileged legacy, enjoying freedom, democracy as well as the social and individual guarantees all of us living here enjoy”, said Prof. Javier Bravo Carbajal, City Mayor.
Worthy of mention is the fact that such act was held under the protocol established by the Law on the Use of Patriotic Symbols, under the command of the armed forces in our municipality. Previously, the authorities there present rendered honors to the National Flag.
City Mayor Presents Government's achievements to Entrepreneurs
City Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, met with members and associates of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex, Vallarta Chapter) presenting them with a balance of actions taken during his administration, he also responded to concerns voiced by this sector on several themes that affect our municipality.
Among the advances mentioned was a strengthened Public Security achieved during the present regime. On this matter the City Mayor added that this year there will be resources of over 10 million pesos for a better infrastructure and equipment to the police forces.
Another point addressed was the important private investment of over 274 million dollars that represents more jobs benefiting the community and placing Puerto Vallarta in the first job generating position in the whole state.
The City Mayor also pointed out that financing of over 11,516,585 pesos was obtained for the promotion of micro and medium sized enterprises .
In the field of public works, he highlighted the investment of 97,623,000 pesos and anticipated that for this year there will be a 430 million peso fund, product of his negotiations with the federal and state governments; this investment will bring up to date most of the urban infrastructure works where the city has been lagging behind. Presently, works are underway to solve the waste management problem and there are important advances in various projects that are already giving results.
The City Mayor also talked about reordering public transportation, which, he indicated, lies within the state government’s responsibility. Nonetheless, actions are being taken in order to give this service a better image.
During the first year of this administration social programs have increased from 9 to 21, benefiting more families who had no Access to these resources. Investment in education grew three-fold and 31 million pesos were invested in sporting infrastructure in addition to works in the optimization of public services.
Members of the entrepreneurial center congratulated the City Mayor for those undertakings and expressed their commitment to work hand in hand with the present regime for the welfare of Puerto Vallarta and its inhabitants.
New containers installed on the City's beaches
Public Services’ Sanitation Department started to remove the old containers replacing them with new ones obtained with funds from ZOFEMAT (Maritime/Land Federal Zone).
The containers are being placed on the accesses to public beaches in order to improve the image of public spaces as part of the pilot cleaning program launched through the permanent campaign “Vallarta Limpio” (Clean Vallarta).
The Sanitation Department Chief Gustavo Ulloa Gómez, also announced that with the purchase of new collection equipment, a new compacting truck route will be implemented. “The advantage of this new system is there is no need to take the container to the dump as the compacting truck hooks the container and collects the waste, leaving it in place”, explained the official.
The truck has the capacity to collect 20 containers in one route, using resources such as gas, time and man/hour, more efficiently.
There will also be a vehicle equipped with a system to wash the containers.

(Holy Week) Vacation Plan
The working groups integrating the Civil Protection Municipal Committee are taking firm steps towards the integration of the Operating Plan for Holy Week and Easter (Pascua) 2008. They met in order to fine-tune the details of the operations to be implemented during the next holiday period .
Civil Protection chief, Edgar Cuevas Monroy, pointed out that the operational plan has an 80% advance as there are activities programs for each of the entities involved in the security and care for visitors and inhabitants of this destination.
On this regard, he mentioned “fortunately, we have the good cooperation of the different entities that have been supporting the program some way or another”.

In its search for actions allowing higher security and confidence levels for the citizens and tourists, the third working session of the Committee for Accident and Contingency Prevention met in order to follow-up on the preventive tasks within the municipality.
Municipal transit Sub director, Sergio Dávila Aguirre, presented some of the projects that will contribute to a culture of street harmony for the people, among the projects lies the improvement of street and road signs all over Puerto Vallarta as it is presently obsolete and could cause accidents.
He highlighted the required participation of various entities, such as Civil Protection, schooling and medical institutions, restaurants and hotels, among others, in order to generate a list of places where signs are a priority. Bus stops signs are needed in the city, since they will contribute to the education among public transportation users and operators.
Another subject of the meeting is the Alcohol-meter Operation (Operativo Alcoholímetro); Dávila Aguirre summed-up the results obtained from this program since it was launched, remarking that traffic accidents have diminished in 35-45% and therefore injuries too.
Finally, the transit chief confirmed that the program will continue to be applied permanently not only to drivers, but to traffic policemen and other officers where needed since such actions have benefited the whole municipality.
XCI Constitution Anniversary Commemorated
Celebrating our civic values, civil and military authorities, headed by Puerto Vallarta City Mayor, Javier Bravo Carbajal, commemorated the XCI Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Mexican Constitution of 1917, this document has ruled national life and remains valid since then .
The head of Social Development, Salvador González Reséndiz, was the official speaker in this ceremony and expressed that the Constitution was a decree of the constituent Congress of Querétaro, as a result of the historical development of the Mexican people and their judicial tradition, achieving a favorable position for our country’s social justice, peace, freedom and political stability including social rights within its guarantees.
In this civic ceremony, in which our flag was raised full-staff and the National Anthem was sung, the City Hall, through its program “Youth, Excellence and Homeland”, coordinated by the department of Art and Culture teaming with the Municipal Education Department, delivered recognitions to students of “Agustín Flores Contreras” grade school for their high scholarly performance
