Clean Beaches in Puerto Vallarta

The city government and health officials discredited claims by some media versions that some ofthe beaches in this destination were polluted and not up to standards for  people’s recreational use

It is worth noting that according to the most recent sampling by the Federal Commission for theProtection Against Sanitary Hazards –COFEPRIS— at the port’s main beaches; none of these was over the recommended sea water quality limits; they were all under the rule with the exception of Mismaloya Beach, which was over the limit “due to the presence of strong tides during the month of February”.

It was the very Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), who informed that the 226 beaches reported by COFEPRIS, “are within the recommended limits”.

Therefore, the City Hall reiterates that the information circulated was false and without sustain or objectivity, apart from causing great damage to this destination’s image.

Crocodile area protected in Boca de Tomates

Due to the presence of crocodiles and other animal species in the Boca de Tomates estuary, the Public Services Department, the Sub Directorate for the Environment and Ecology in conjunction with SEMARNAT (Ministry for the Environment and  Natural Resources) as well as a local tourist services company, placed a wire mesh fence on the access road as well as a sign indicating the presence of said animals in the zone. This is meant for the protection of tourists and locals visiting the area during the holiday period.

Rafael García de Quevedo, Environment and Ecology sub director said this measure was taken firstly for the protection of people and secondly due to the proximity to the beach access, this action is meant to avoid problems with the crocodiles living in the area.

He also added that while on a tour with the Ecology Department Chief, Salvador Gómez Graciano, he was able to tell that the estuary houses ten adult crocodiles, measuring six to twelve feet long and the wire mesh and sign are placed there as a means of precaution taken to avoid accidents.
