Local Sportsmen Place Puerto Vallarta very high

City mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal recognized the talent, effort and dedication of medalists and local sportsmen who took part in placing the name of Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco very high in the past ‘Olimpiada Nacional’ (National Olympics) and the ‘Para-Olimpiada Nacional 2008’ (National Para-Olympics 2008), where the state achieved the ninth and fifth positions respectively, a great achievement.

In his message, the city mayor thanked the effort of our proud sportsmen as he pointed out that behind each medal there is a daily struggle that is fundamental to every goal, thus allowing Vallartense sports to occupy an important space statewide.

“The work you undertake is also an incentive to the children and youth of Puerto Vallarta” —he indicated— as sports, besides bringing about medals, fortifies the spirit of those who practice it, he therefore invited them to translate this persistence into their daily lives and participate daily to the betterment of this destination. “We are a team, Vallarta is a team and each one of its members must contribute so that we may have a better life, so that Puerto Vallarta of course, be a place where to live better”.

The city hall is investing in sports and now there is a new sporting facility in “La Lija”, as well as in La Moderna neighborhood; work is underway on the final stages of the multi-use gym at the ¨Alfonso Díaz Santos¨ sporting facility and the olympic pool is under construction. Actions to Protect the Environment were singled out

“It is good that there are citizens like yourselves, willing to deliver your time and efforts for the sake of a noble purpose as it is to care for the natural environment of Puerto Vallarta”, this was expressed by the city mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, when he headed last Tuesday the delivery of credentials to the Comité Municipal de Vigilancia Ambiental Participativa y de Protección al Jaguar (Municipal Committee of Participative Environment Surveillance for the Protection of the Jaguar) of PROFEPA (Agency for Environment Protection).

Before the members of this group, the city mayor thanked them on behalf of the City Hall and the community for the valuable labor they do to benefit of Puerto Vallarta, our destination, privileged by nature.

As part of this effort a commitment of an environmental audit was agreed, under a PROFEPA program, where there are already previous actions which will require the joint participation of the government, society and mainly those with an ecologic conscience.

Puerto Vallarta is the heritage we share with millions of visitors, that is why work is to be undertaken to stop environmental deterioration, the protection of species and mainly a better quality of life for those who live here, bringing about in consequence a positive impact to our main economic activity: tourism. Sustainable development will give our port a significant “plus”, and therefore a greater flow of tourists, an increase in investments, jobs and economic activity.

The president of this committee Jorge Alberto Vivanco Limón, was also present in the event, as well as the representative of the Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Medio Ambiente, (PROFEPA, Agency for Environment Protection).

12 million pesos Approved for
the Rescue of the Downtown Area

With the unanimous support of the full City Hall, the funding by 12 million pesos by the Municipal Government was approved for the second phase of the Project for the rescue of the city’s downtown area, which includes the enlargement of the sidewalks of Avenue Paseo Díaz Ordaz, and the prohibition to use them for commercial purposes in addition to that agreement, so that this becomes part of the ruling for the preservation of the historic center’s image, a ruling that is about to be issued.

In an ordinary session, the City Council expressed its support to the project in order to obtain the participation of the state and federal governments with 12 million pesos each, to make a total of 36 million pesos to be applied this year to the restoration of facilities and façades, conditioning and enlargement of sidewalks, as well as a series of complementary works on an important number of blocks of the downtown area.

The main concern of the majority of council members was basically centered on the question of sidewalk enlargement, as well as the consciousness and consent achieved so that storeowners of the area, transporters (taxis) and others,  would agree with this part of the project and with the prohibition of the use of sidewalks for commercial purposes.

In that regard it was established that additions should be made to the diagnostic emitted by the commissions of Treasury and Public Works. Therefore, after a series of opinions and pondering by the Council, it was proposed to include a point of agreement establishing, as of then, the prohibition of positioning tables and chairs on the enlarged sidewalks, or their use for commercial purposes.

The city mayor recognized it is an adequate and timely proposal, as the goal is to profit from the enlarged sidewalks strictly for pedestrian use.

The enlargement of sidewalks was indicated as something necassary in this destination, as well as the recuperation of spaces for pedestrians, thinking mainly of our tourism, the main asset of Puerto Vallarta.

Environmental Certification works begun

Upon assuming the commitment to be the first municipality in Jalisco to start to work on its certification as a ‘Destino Turístico Limpio’ (Clean Touristic Destination); the city mayor and the delegate of PROFEPA (Agency for Environment Protection), undersigned this past Tuesday an agreement to formally launch the activities of the Environmental Audit, which will grant Puerto Vallarta this important distinction.

The city mayor pointed out: “today we are united by the need to be more competitive, to be a touristic destination characterized by its care and protection of the environment; to be a destination that prioritizes nature’s projects above all; to understand our role to care for the best we have”.

He referred that those of us who live in Puerto Vallarta, have the fortune of enjoying the enigmatic combination of its nature and its great attractions, factors that make 4 million national and international visitors come yearly bringing enormous benefits, as well as being recognized as one of the main tourist destinations of Mexico and the most important of Jalisco; a category that does not come free and on which work will continue at a strong pace to maintain it. “that is why today, we have signed with PROFEPA the agreement that launches the Environmental Certification Audit of Puerto Vallarta, because we want and must make it clear that we are a great municipality and an unequaled touristic destination, that takes head-on the challenge of being better than others”.

The city mayor emphasized also that a project is assumed that by means of this federal entity will give Vallarta the clean municipality distinction, since, “we adhere voluntarily to the National Program of Environmental Audit with the objective of improving the quality of life of Vallartenses which of course, is important and vital to us”.

On these works, he informed that due to the territorial extension of Puerto Vallarta, and the wide diversity of activities performed within the municipality, the installations and processes will be performed separately, contemplating nine audits referring to: integral waste management, air quality, natural resources, slaughterhouses, markets, wholesale food markets, municipal medical services, parks, gardens, recreational centers and cemeteries, as well as maintenance workshops; transportation and administrative facilities.

This process will be strengthened by the participation and support of all Vallartenses “because today, united we can boast about being the first municipality in Jalisco to take on the challenge of being certified as a Clean Touristic Destination”.

It is all about an ambitious Project which to be furthered simultaneously with the certification of beaches “because it must be demonstrated that the beaches of Vallarta are clean and safe for all our tourists”, a guarantee granted by the measurements of the ministries of the Environment and Natural Resources, Tourism, Health and the Navy, which are “ the best qualified government’s entities on the subject, with real information available to all assuring that the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, including Mismaloya, are ready to greet the millions of yearly visitors”.

“It is the time to push these projects forward; it is the moment to continue united for the good of Puerto Vallarta, which is doubtless our most precious treasure, it is our land and our children’s heritage” the city mayor concluded.
