The Public Works Department Intensifies its tasks in the City
 In line with responding to the main demands of the citizenry, the Public Works Department continues to strengthen the pothole repair program and streets maintenance in various sports n the city.
Presently the personnel and machinery modules are distributed throughout the municipality, where besides street repairs, they also handle tasks in support of public works, reinforcement of contention walls on rivers and brooks as well as the opening of roads into rural communities
Regarding the maintenance of streets, their presence continues in the avenida Las Torres and Francisco Márquez street, as well as in avenida México, from avenida Guadalajara to the CUC (UdeG University Campus) which was affected during the rainy season.
The ongoing non-stop pothole repair program continues onto the road to Mismaloya and the road to Las Palmas, where the problem has been partly mitigated.
The night-shift has been addressing the downtown streets as well as the El Pitillal delegation, mainly the streets used by public transportation. The repair program of Morelos street was just completed downtown Puerto Vallarta and the works will now begin on Venustiano Carranza street.
 Four important projects are being published for bidding, these are: the refurbishment of the side lanes of avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio where it meets the bypass (Libramiento “Luis Donaldo Colosio”), the stretching of 10 de Mayo street, the second phase of avenida González Gallo and one of the bridges on avenida Federación.
In reference to the fact that no more cobble-stone but hydraulic cement streets built, the Public Works Department explained that this rational does not apply to areas such as the historic Center, the colonia 5 de Diciembre, Olas Altas street, Emiliano Zapata, among other districts that due to their characteristics should maintain their urban image; on the contrary, the new system will apply to new areas of growth.

Getting ready for the XI Fireworks Symposium
 In preparation towards the XI Fireworks Symposium, Municipal authorities, participants and members of he organizing committee gathered to fine-tune the details and logistics that will make possible this world’s encounter of pyrotechnics to be held here from April 20 to 24, 2009.
The city mayor attended the meeting confirming the total support of his government to make this one of the best pyrotechnics celebrations.
He added that motivated by this symposium, last May this city celebrated a national level event, serving as a preamble to this international gala with the purpose of formally integrating pyrotechnics as one more of the Puerto Vallarta’s multiple attractions, which turned out to be an event greatly enjoyed by the community.
 The organizing committee announced that this encounter has raised great expectations on the part of foreign participants, achieving what no prior congress has generated, like the anticipated registry of many of them, there are nine companies that will participate with eye-catching fireworks displays.
Along the duration of this symposium, which will set a landmark in Mexican pyrotechnics, other works and discussions will be presented dealing with security, science, engineering, art and this activity’s worldwide regulations.

The ‘Triathlon Puerto Vallarta 2008’ resulted in a total success!
 Once again our Destination was the seat of the ‘Triathlon Puerto Vallarta 2008’, which was celebrated with a great participation of athletes from different Mexican states, in addition to the participation of the top athletes of this discipline on a national basis.
The city mayor pointed out that this is the comeback of a city tradition, seeking to make it one of the most important in our country. It is meant to become a great attraction since “Puerto Vallarta will stand to the challenge of improving this event year after year, and very specially towards 2011, when Puerto Vallarta will no doubt be a magnificent seat for the Pan American Games”.
 Also present at this event was Mr. Carlos Andrade Garín, director of the Guadalajara Pan American Games Committee 2011, who was grateful for the support for the celebration of the 2008 triathlon and stated: “this will be the seat of the Pan American games” reason why there will be higher level events every time, in view of such sporting challenge.
The competition started early in the categories: Elite, Sprint and Olympic, where participants gave their greatest effort in the disciplines of swimming, cycling and athletics, both male and female divisions on the distances established by the Pan American Games.
A recognition was also made of those young volunteers who provided the needed back up the different tasks of the competition required.

Sculptor Alejandro Colunga to Donate his works to Vallarta
 Visibly moved by the great celebration the Vallartenses dedicated in his honor, artist Alejandro Colunga expressed his appreciation to this land who saw his birth as an international visual arts master and he announced that the collection hosting various works created in his 40-year long career will be donated to Puerto Vallarta.
The above was framed by the homage this city’s municipality offered the renowned author of ‘La Rotonda del Mar’; the sculptural group of original figures that has filled with life and magic the malecón (boardwalk) area.
The audience did not have to wait to witness the artist’s enthusiasm, who exclaimed “my heart is about to burst, I did not expect this welcome; good sowing brings good harvesting and here is the proof, my best friends and family are in Puerto Vallarta; I gave the city a drop of water and she gave me back an ocean. Puerto Vallarta taught me to be an artist”. And since my creative spirit belongs to this city “I donate my whole collection to Puerto Vallarta” – he highlighted – in addition to contributing for this paradisiacal destination to be recognized worldwide for its cultural heritage.
 Within this scenario the city mayor exalted Colunga’s great quality, who found open doors in Vallarta so that the visual arts wizard within him could emerge, so, in the name of the city government, delivered a well-deserved recognition to the artist for his work and unconditional support for this port.
Among hoorays and applause, the sky lit up with fireworks accompanying the colorful shows of different local groups, who through juggling and music joined this fiesta in which also distinguished citizens, known Vallartenses and heads of private enterprise attended.
