Renaissance
By Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo • July 2009

Right outside my office there is a lime tree sheltering an outdoor sitting area and my mini-gym; both sitting out at night or working out in the early morning can be really pleasurable with the added aromatherapy of the lime tree. At night it bathes the area with its aroma quite spontaneously, in the mornings I usually chop a couple of leaves and that does the trick.

RenaissanceThough early this year an invasive plant crawled over the office roof and onto the top of my lime tree, preventing it from gathering its share of sunlight and practically suffocating it; its always plentiful production of limes became a trickle of what is used to be.

Since the rainy season is almost here I decided I should prune it before the invading plague kills it.

When we, my lime tree, my machete and myself, were finally rid of the enemy, there was just the main trunk and a few bare branches left of the tree. That is when I started to worry I may have killed it myself. I carefully watered the tree and its accompanying orchid on a daily basis and after about twenty days I finally saw a quarter-inch bright-green needle spring from its trunk. I celebrated telling everybody MY LIME TREE IS ALIVE!!

Sunday morning I felt a somewhat similar experience. I went to the convention center to check on the Meeting Place Mexico convention, the convention center is looking its best and the turnout was impressing; it had been some time I had not seen many of our partners in travel, busily engaging in negotiations under the bright blue Vallarta sky.

There were travel and convention planners from all over the United States, Mexico and Canada, as well as purveyors from the four corners of Mexico; cruise ship companies, credit card companies, conventions and visitors bureaus from just about every state of Mexico, as well as from Canada and Central America, and there were just about all of the local hoteliers, ground handlers and destination-management companies, tour operators and even restaurants.

Everybody was in an upbeat mood and our eyes shone bright celebrating the re-encounter with our dear business associates.

RenaissanceI find that the balmy climate of Vallarta always tends to improve. Our first-time visitors sometimes awake and see the haze formed by the humidity in the morning atmosphere thinking it is going to be a cloudy day, only to find that by midmorning the sun has burnt away all the mist treating us to another of its 360 sunny days a year.

By the same token, during a worldwide economic crisis and after a virus scare that never came near, all the elements are there: the sun, the sea, the hospitality and the spectacular facilities and activities for a decidedly straightforward rebound of all activities in the Bay of Banderas, we are just waiting to share it all with you, don’t be long!
