200 Million Viewers Expected for
the EMC2 World Cup 2002
From December 10 to 15 of this year,
Puerto Vallarta will play host to the World Golf Championship,
EMC2 World Cup 2002. This world cup was officially admitted
as the fourth venue in that Championship circuit in
1999. The following year, it staged the event in Buenos
Aires, Argentina and last year in Shizuoka, Japan. The
latter was won by current champions Ernie Els and Retief
Goosen of South Africa following an exciting two-hole
playoff round. The two will participate in the Vallarta
tournament to defend their title and hopefully win the
impressive John J. Hopkins trophy once more.
Twenty-four countries will take part
in the event, with two players each. They will play
on the Vista Vallarta course designed by Jack Nicklaus
inaugurated last April.
The tournament will be broadcast
to 140 countries around the world and over 200 Million
viewers are expected to watch. The economic fallout
from the event will represent approximately $10 Million
U.S. Dollars, this according to the EMC's Executive
Director, Steve Wilson. In the States, the coverage
will be televised by the USA network on Thursday and
Friday, and picked up by ABC for the Saturday and Sunday
final rounds.
The attendance of U.S. golf superstar
Tiger Woods will only be determined in September once
the final official PGA rankings are established.
The beautiful course designed by
golf legend Jack Nicklaus is a Par 72 over some of the
most beautiful 7,057 yards on this side of heaven.
Tickets and special lodging packages
have been available since April 15th and nine of the
local hotels will be offering transportation to and
from the golf course. They are, in the Marina Vallarta
area: the Westin Regina, the Marriott CasaMagna, the
elegant and exclusive Quinta Real (formerly known as
the Hacienda Cora and the Bel-Air), the Melia and the
Velas; as well as the Sheraton Buganvilias, the Krystal,
the Holiday Inn and the Fiesta Americana, all in the
Hotel Zone.
Tickets for the entire duration of
the event may be acquired for U.S.$ 160. + tax at 01
(800) EMC 2002, and if you use your American Express
card to charge them, you will receive a 10% discount
on the cost. For more information with regard to tickets
and/or tourist packages, you may call the toll free
number above or get in touch with Ms. Elisa Gaudet at
221-0073, ext. 111 or by e-mail at egaudet@pgatouhq.com
The organizers are still looking
for volunteers to help out before, during and after
this world-class premiere for Puerto Vallarta. They
will need 600 before it's all over. If interested, you
are asked to please contact Joe Johnston at jjohnston@pvnet.com.mx
July 4th Celebrations Are Coming!
Plans are underway for the big July
4th celebration of the U.S. Independence Day. As in
the past seven years, the commemoration will also be
a charity event benefiting the many local charities
that participate with activity booths. In addition,
many of Vallarta's finest restaurants will be serving
food - from chili dogs to Caesar salad - with a portion
of the proceeds donated to the charities, which include
Casa Hogar, DIVAC, and the Red Cross. The event is traditionally
an all-community event - not just one for the American
population - as the celebration is one of independence
for all.
Festivities will take place on the
campus of the American School and admission is free
for everyone. The party will kick off on Thursday, July
4th at 11 a.m. with a special Disney show for children
-for which there is a small fee- to be followed by continuous
free entertainment for both adults and children. Bands,
dance groups and MTV "guest appearances" are
expected, courtesy of several of the large hotels.

- Ceremony for the Purification of the Environment -

It is a concept of Tibetan tradition
that the lack of prosperity, abundance and confusion
in the minds of a region's inhabitants causes violence
in their relationships. This is due in great part to
the lack of harmony and balance between the natural
elements that make up the energy field of the place.
During this purification of the environment, the monks
remove obstacles to the flows of energy, balancing the
natural elements that make up the habitat of the region
where the ceremony is held, while harmonizing the mind
and body of those in attendance.

Karma is all the actions we undertake
through our minds, words and actions. The Buddhist concept
states that good karma leads to happiness while bad
karma attracts suffering. The virtuous destiny of man
is based on the increase in positive karma and the decrease
of negative karma, the latter will have to be worked
through an intense internal change and powerful ritual
practices such as the initiation to Vajarasattva. This
is a tantric practice that works on the negative purification
of karma.
