Bayside Properties Does Good

A warm thanks to Lynda Barth & Susan Wiseman of Bayside Properties from the mothers and all the children of RISE!

A generous donation to Refugio Infantil Santa Esperanza, A.C., (RISE) has been made by Lynda Barth & Susan Wiseman, owners of Bayside Properties, who have taken it upon themselves to try to enlighten the residents of Puerto Vallarta about the urgent need for financial help for the Refugio.

They have pledged five (5%) percent of all sales to RISE and offer a challenge to other businesses and individuals to help this fine cause.

La Jolla de Mismaloya Gets ISO 9001 2002 Certification

The beautiful hotel located on Mismaloya Bay, the site originally used for the filming of The Night of the Iguana some 40 years ago, has once again received its ISO 9001 Certification for the current year.

This year, the coveted certificate was awarded to Sr. Santiago Gutierrez, General Manager of the Gran Turismo hotel, by Sr. Alejandro Ríos who represents the Société Générale de Surveillance in Mexico.

The ISO 9001 is only granted to those establishments that fulfill strict quality standards with regard to hotel administration and services as well as to the quality of the dishes and the service provided in the restaurants.

To celebrate the event and its 12 years of uninterrupted service, La Jolla de Mismaloya is offering special packages on their one-bedroom and presidential suites until the end of this month.

Congratulations - once again - to the entire staff of the hotel and its General Manager.

No Fines for Cars with Old License Plates

Until now, the Municipal Transit Department still has not received any instructions from the state Department of Roads and Transport or its Finance Department with regard to the detention and fining of drivers who have not acquired their new license plates - although the final date for such transactions was set for October 11th.

It should be pointed out that the General Secretary of the State in Guadalajara indicated that they are waiting for the Governor to make a decision before they follow-up on the measures involving over 2 million vehicles that had to get their new plates in this state of Jalisco.

Renovation Work at Airport Advancing on Schedule

If you have gone to the airport recently, you may have noticed that the parking lot has undergone many changes. The fleet of taxis has been relocated away from the entrances to the building, considerably improving the image of the place.

In addition, there is more parking space for visitors, at the far side of the parking lot, near the entrance to Aerotron. The lots have been repaved and an automated gate will be installed. The sidewalks will be cement, with handicap access, and the exit roads to Compostela and to Vallarta are scheduled to be enlarged to three lanes.

In a recent interview, the General Director of the airport announced that European-made seats were ordered for the main area of the airport because "there were complaints from some people who said that there was nowhere for them to sit while they had to wait…"

He added that the air-conditioning system would be changed, the roof would be changed, new monitors -with the software for their operation- would be installed to replace the existing screens and the five luggage conveyor belts would be changed as well. The outside of the airport will be landscaped as well.

According to the Director, all renovation work is expected to be ready by mid-November. He also stated that he had met with members of the organizing committee of the World Golf Cup who had requested facilities to handle the 80 to 90 private airplanes expected at the event.

As the tournament organizers had complained about the time-share promoters in the airport, the Director said that his people would do everything they could to ease the arrival of the participants and avoid disturbances.

Royal Caribbean Suspends Cruises to Mexican Pacific Coast

The only cruise line to offer cruises from San Diego to the Pacific coast of Mexico has suspended the service after just five months of operations.

Royal Caribbean International representatives said that its Grandeur of the Seas would be returning to Europe next summer, where it used to be based prior to the September 11 attacks.

The ship has a capacity for 2,400 passengers and its cruise down the coast included stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. Its last visit to this port was at the end of last month.

Statistically, Puerto Vallarta welcomed 123 cruise ships last year and 172 are expected this year, representing an increase of over 39%. In addition, an increase of 40% in the number of passengers is also expected for this year.

Each visit by a ship the size of the Grandeur of the Seas represents an income of some U.S. $750,000. for this destination, deriving from the purchases made by the passengers and crew, this according to numbers issued by the cruise line industry.

Over $1.5 Million Pesos in Prizes

This year, the winners of the 47th Jalisco International Sailfish Tournament will share prizes valued at over $1.5 Million Pesos. The event will take place November 21 to 23 with the Hotel Flamingo Vallarta as home base and the award dinner will be held at the Velas Vallarta Hotel in the Marina.

Among the prizes are six automobiles as well as the customary trophies and minor prizes.

At a recent press conference, Sr. Alejandro Herrera who heads the board of directors of this year's event said that they are expecting more participants than ever. He added that the idea is for everyone to come out a winner, to leave with a good impression of the organization and development of the tournament, and of course to enjoy good fishing like in past years so that once again, the tournament will turn out to be among the best events of the year.

In the category that gives its name to the tournament - sailfish - the winner will drive away in a Chevy Cheyenne 2002 truck, sponsored by Corona Beer, along with the Montaduras del Pacifico trophy. Second place will receive the keys to a Chevrolet Sunfire and the third place winner will be the owner of a brand new 4-door Chevy Cavalier.

The winner in the marlin category will also drive away in a 4-door Chevy Cavalier while second place will receive a 25-hp Mercury outboard motor.

In the dorado category, the winner will receive a Chevy Pop, as will the winner in the tuna category.

6 New Accesses to Beaches?

As one of the proposals to be accomplished during the present municipal administration, the representatives of the Maritime Federal Zone are making progress with regard to the possible opening of six accesses to the beaches in the Marina Vallarta hotel zone.

This is one of the requests made by the union representatives of the beach vendors. Through negotiations involving the Hotel and Motel Association, personnel of the Urban Planning Department and union leaders, there have been inspection visits to the area to evaluate the situation, leading to the conclusion that there are in fact very few accesses to the beach despite the fact that it is required by the authorities.

The accesses that may be opened are located at the Bay View Grand, the Porto Fino, Velas Vallarta Hotel, the Marriott CasaMagna, the Melía and the Westin Regina.
