Grupo Posadas is launching a new 3-star hotel chain, designed hotel businesspeople and traveling professionals. The first One Hotel is due to open in Mexico City next year, with plans for 50 more by 2010. Each hotel will have around 100 rooms equipped with wireless Internet and work stations, with an anticipated rate of about 60dollars a night. The chain will complement Posada’s luxury establishments (such as the Fiesta Americana and Caesar Park chains), allowing the group to server a wider variety of business travelers and tourist than previously.
FONATUR will renovate the image and the
functionality of the Boulevard Kukulcan in Cancún

 The special budget available for this project ascends to 220 million pesos. In addition there is an entry allocated by the President of the Republic for another additional 10 million dollars.
With the intention to totally renovate the urban image of the hotel zone in Cancun which allows this destination to be more competitive, an intense renovation program is carried out which will conclude on the next 14th of December.
The regional director of the C.I.P. Fonatur Cancún, Ricardo Alvarado Guerrero, pointed out that thanks to the collaboration of different government instances it has been possible to advance with those actions that seek to raise the tourist level of the area.
Found amongst the main actions to be carried out during the next days we have:
• Repairing of the bicycle path, located at kilometer 0 to 4, with a new pavement
• Placing 3 thousand new lights
• Setting up 2 thousand 200 new poles.
• Restoring 40 hectares of garden areas
• Substituting 10 thousand palm trees.
• Carrying out an architectural landscape project

- Pieces of work after Wilma:
In order to diminish the effects of hurricane Wilma, Fonatur headed cleaning actions on the rain drainage in order to prevent puddles and flooding on the Boulevard Kukulcan. These works were finished in one week even though initially it had been planned to carry it out in the double amount of time.
In reference to cleaning and to removing vegetation and debris as well as to opening the boulevard to circulation he added that 4 days were employed. During 10 days people worked on cleaning the 28 kilometers of the Boulevard. A total of 500 elements from Fonatur BMO and from the Secretary of Defense and the Marine Secretary participated.
He added that this Sunday the supply for water, drainage, telephone and electric energy will function a 100 per cent. With these actions all hotels will be able to offer the necessary services to their clients starting on Monday.
The Fonatur official exhorted hotelkeepers not to leave their garbage or rubble on the Boulevard Kukulcan and asked them that they themselves take care of depositing it in those places which exist for this purpose.

Cozumel is on its feet and having a fiesta!

• Two cruise ships arrived in Cozumel after the passing of hurricane Wilma which
devastated the island in the middle of October.
• During the month of November alone Cozumel received the visit of 14 cruise ships.
• A battery of cultural and artistic events took place in the Benito Juarez Park of the
island of Cozumel from the 14th to the 21st of November.
 With the slogan “Cozumel is on its feet and having a fiesta” the island of Cozumel received the tourists arriving on board the MV Galaxy and the Carnival Triumph, the first two cruise ships to arrive in the state of Quintana Roo after the passing of the hurricane Wilma this past month of October.
The ship MV Galaxy from Celebrity Cruises, the company which forms part of the Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD group, arrived at Cozumel with 1870 passengers on board, coming from Galveston, Texas. This cruise ship will continue along the Mayan Coast (Mexico), then Puerto Limon (Costa Rica) and finally it will reach Panama.
A total of 14 cruise ship visited the island of Cozumel just in November. Four cruise ships baptized with the names of Norwegian Sun, Satar Princesa, Jewel of the Seas y Norwegian Dream arrived on the 15th of November. Four more ships, Norwegian, Majesty, Zenith and Carnival Miracle docked on the 16th of November. The “Legend of the Seas” came on Thursday 17th, “Rhapsody of the Seas” and “Carnival Conquest” on Friday the 18th and “Enchantment of the Seas” on Saturday the 19th.
At the same time a program of cultural and artistic events was carried out in the Benito Juarez Park from the 14th to the 19th of November because of the arrival of the first cruise ships to the island of Cozumel after the passing of Wilma.
Some of the tourist activities that were developed in the Fuente Atardecer Marino (marine sunset fountain) were the performance of the Mariachi del Sol and the pre-Hispanic ballet Tonameyotzin amongst other regional and serenading folklore groups.
Music also showed up in Cozumel with the sound of the Cuzamil Banda and the company of other live groups, presenting star performances by singers of Cuban, ranchero, marimba and troubadour music.
A photo exposition called “Wilma and the spirit of fighting of the inhabitants of Cozumel” in the kiosk of the Benito Juarez park. All the cultural events took place in the Fuente Atardecer Marino as well as in the Reloj Publico (public clock).
The artistic gallery of Cozumel dressed up elegantly with the exhibition of paintings “Galo Art” which is mounted on walkway 1, located on the 5th Avenue between Juarez and 1st. Marimba is set up on walkway 2, located on the 1st street. And the troubadour is found on walkway 4, on 5th Avenue between Juarez and 2nd North.
- Plan of ecological order in Cozumel:
During a journey taken through the island of Cozumel, Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, Secretary of Tourism announced that the National Tourist Fund will be in charge of preparing a new plan for the territorial and ecological order in Cozumel with the aim to reactivate its image and its activity.
Amongst other agreements reached by the federal, state and municipal governments there is the preparation of new rules and regulations for the urban image, with the intention that Cozumel may recuperate its identity. The municipality will be in charge and impresarios will participate in the project, too.
