President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa attended the closing ceremony of the VII International Tourism Congress, where he informed entrepreneurs of the field that the private tourism investment reached the amount of  3,073 Million Dollars by the month of September.

• He emphasized that the states concentrating the highest amounts of domestic and international touristic investment during said period are: Quintana Roo, Sonora, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Baja California.

• 58 percent of said investment comes from domestic sources, while 42 percent is foreign investment, mainly from Spain and the United States of America.

President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, made it known that during the first nine months of the year, private touristic investment in Mexico reached 3,073 Million Dollars, which represents an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year.

cruceroDuring the closing ceremony of the VII International Tourism Congress, organized by the National Touristic Entrepreneurial Council (CNET), pointed out that the sum achieved so far in touristic investment represents 92 percent of this year’s goal, which is 3,333 Million Dollars.

During his speech, he remarked that according to the Tourism Ministry’s National Touristic Investments Census, those states that concentrate the highest amounts of domestic and international investment during that period are: Quintana Roo, Sonora, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Baja California.

He also noted that 58 percent of said investment comes from domestic sources, while 42 percent is foreign investment, mainly from Spain and the United States of America.

Present before federal, state and municipal officers, entrepreneurs and touristic services providers, the Mexican President reiterated that Mexico is a safe destination for tourism and for investors, and called for continued investment in our country.

During CNET’s International Congress, tourism minister Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, urged entrepreneurs, public officials and services purveyors, to see that investment in the tourism sector be generated within a criteria of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

He enhanced the fact that for Sectur (Mexican tourism Ministry) it is of utmost importance for investment to carry a social value, by means of generating wealth, generating employment, the virtuous transformation of the population going from a status of need to one of human sustainable development.

cruceroA decided support of Tourism.

It may be noted that the present administration has shown clear signs of support to the tourism activity in order to place it as a priority in the domestic agenda.

Down this path and thanks to the support of President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, an increase of 61 percent for the Ministry of Tourism’s budget is contemplated in the Project for 2008’s Federal Expenditure Budget.

Said increase, if approved by the Chamber of Representatives, will be fully applied to strengthen the tourism development planning activities of our country in charge of the National Tourism Fund (Fonatur).

Another action by President Calderón has to do with the presentation of the National Infrastructure Program 2007–2012, as its execution will surely have a dramatic impact in the development of the touristic activity, since it contemplates the construction and remodelation of ports, airports and roads.
