Direct Foreign Investment of 23,230 Million Dollars in 2007

The Ministry of Economy informed that direct foreign investment in Mexico during 2007 added up to 23,230 million Dollars, 20.8% higher than in 2006.
The Minister of Economy, Eduardo Sojo, stated that the amount makes 2007 the second best year in foreign investment, just shy of the 29.5 billion Dollars accounted for in 2001 with the purchase of Banamex by Citi Group.
With said amount, the arrival of investment resources places itself as the third major importer of currency, under oil exports (39 billion Dollars) and the receipt of foreign deposits (24 billion Dollars).
The officer acknowledged that before an economic scenery marked by a deceleration in the economy of the United States, 2008 will be an atypical year and the figure will be lesser; nonetheless an estimate will be given out in the following days.
“We are compiling the investment numbers for January and we are analyzing which sectors will be affected”. The officer said.
The United States is the main source of capital for Mexico with 47.3%; next comes Holland with 15.1%; Spain, with 9.6%; France, 7.2%; Canada 4%; Belgium 2.6%; Luxemburg, 2.4% and the remaining 11.8% is spread among other nations. Email to a friend
