President Felipe Calderón declared that it is time to make Mexico the leading tourist destination, because we have everything we need to do so. To achieve this, everyone must play his part, not only by investing in tourist projects but by visiting the country's various attractions and telling others who have not yet visited them about them.

“Now, more than ever, we need to reactivate our tourist industry, which is a source of income for millions of Mexicans and one of the engines of national growth," he said.

During the inauguration of the Hotel Grand Velas All Suites & Spa Resort, Riviera Maya, he explained that this is precisely the reason for the Vive México movement, which is not only an advertising campaign but also a call to action and solidarity with those that make their living from tourism, and a call to the world and Mexicans to discover or rediscover the country’s marvelous natural riches.

Accompanied by Governor of Quintana Roo Félix Arturo González Canto and Tourism Secretary Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, he said that government is also playing its part by assigning a record amount to the promotion of tourism, totaling $1,200 billion pesos.

“The point is for tourists to come and experience Mexico, to enjoy a nation with great natural beauty, deep cultural roots and landscapes like the one behind me that are truly spectacular. Mexico is a country with enormous artistic and artisanal vitality, an age-old gastronomic tradition and an enormously festive spirit," he declared.

At the same time, President Felipe Calderón said that Mexico is displaying unity and determination in the way it has not only faced the challenges of economic recession, the lack of safety on the streets and the virus affecting our country but is overcoming them.

A propos of this he said, “And nowadays, the strength of our institutions and our businessmen such as those that promoted this hotel and above all the conviction that all Mexicans will be able to progress have enabled us not only to survive as a strong, united nation but also to resume the path of growth.

Proof of this, he said, is the inauguration of the Hotel Grand Velas, in the Riviera Maya, a new, world-class tourist option sending a message that Mexico's tourist industry is flourishing.

He said that the new tourist complex, containing nearly 500 suites, entailed a 100% Mexican investment of $3.5 billion pesos, which will create 1,500 direct jobs and approximately 5,000 indirect jobs, for the benefit of many families in Quintana Roo, excluding the jobs created in construction.  Email to a friend
