Water

By Diana Ibarra Mayorga / Photos by Jesus de Avila – November 2007.

According To her book “Food and You”, Sari Harrar tells us that in order to carry out all of our daily life’s activities, our organism needs great amounts of water. If lost liquids are not replaced dehydration happens fast and although fruit juices consist mainly of water, plain pure water is your best choice to drink. Water is one of the most important nutrients, it is low in sodium and does not contain fats, cholesterol, caffeine or calories, as other drinks do.

• Why drink water

cosmetologa It is necessary to drink water to conserve your liquid reserves. In elder people a series of conditions favor dehydration, since as we age, our sensation of thirst diminishes. For women it is especially important to maintain their water reserves, as water is stored mainly in their muscles and women generally have less muscular mass than men. In order to remain hydrated a person must drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water or some type of liquid. Nonetheless under some special circumstances more than 21 glasses of water are necessary. Hot times, periods of intense physical activity, exercising moderately or even house chores may bring about increased perspiration and consequently a greater loss of water. When we sweat water is lost and we must drink more water in order to replace the lost liquid.

• Let’s not forget to drink water

In order to remain hydrated I suggest, for starters, drink water upon waking up in the morning. To drink a glass of water as soon as you get up will contribute to replace the liquids lost during sleep and will also help you fight constipation, having water always readily at hand, at the office, at home and in the kitchen in order to drink from one and a half to two liters of water daily. If you do not like water you can prepare tea, other infusions or one of our favorites, hibiscus water with no sugar, we call it “agua de jamaica”. Drinking water before a meal helps obtaining that sensation of fullness and satiety which can be of great help when you want to lose weight.

• Water and your skin

cosmetologa There is no better hydrant than water. It helps you eliminate toxins, the worst enemies of a radiant and luminous skin. Internal hydration – drinking water – generates the best results. Drinking mineral water is also recommended because it is structured to arrive to all the corners of your body.

Using moisturizing creams.
New moisturizing creams deal with dehydration from within. Once they were limited to apply  their ingredients to act on the surface of the skin in order to hydrate it or acting as a shield to prevent water evaporation. But now, the product acts directly on cells. Skin has 50% water circulating freely and 20% in cells as a reserve. This reserve acts the way the heart does pumping water continuously.  The problem arises when this pump runs out of water and cannot work properly. The new moisturizing creams act on the water reserve protecting this deposit. These creams should be applied during the day as well as at night; they are equally necessary to dry as to greasy skins.

• Water in Puerto Vallarta

You can drink the water! The water at all hotels and restaurants is purified. Plus, the water authorities in Puerto Vallarta (SEAPAL) have received a special recognition certifying the purity of our water supply during the past five consecutive years.
