NEED HELP

Papillion Gallery to Donate 40% of Opening Day Sales
to Make a Wish Foundation

Provided By Ambito

To the only end of helping those who need it, in this case, fulfill the wishes of children with terminal illnesses, Papillion Gallery, located on 227 Hidalog Street between Guerrero and Libertad Streets, will donate 40% of the sales proceeds during the inauguration cocktail.

Said cocktail is to take place on Saturday, August 4, 8:00 through 11:00 p.m. presenting over 25 colorful, emotionally charged paintings by Canadian artists. Art pieces are marked at symbolic prices, and forty percent of the proceeds on opening night will go to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Mac and Lou Mactavish, artists and gallery owners have a great passion for Mexican culture, and look to get to know it and portray the origins of the people in their work. Lou’s paintings depict images she captures during her travels, the beaches at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Guayabitos, the crystal clear waters and the exuberant vegetation, footprints in the sand, thoughts and desires of the villagers appear in her paintings. Mac, in turn, prefers colorful paintings; flowers, scenes from the Indian reservations in Canada, with horses and Indian faces, leisure days in the countryside, and even family portraits are painted using oil techniques with brush and knife.

For these Canadian artists supporting children is more than a calling. Mac remembers growing up in a foster home in Canada with nostalgia. This moves him to try to make childhood easy for others. He does so through art. Lou and Mac have worked with the children at the Refugio Santa Esperanza, and they hope to teach art to these children in the nearby future, and give them the opportunity, like he’s had, to express their feelings and emotions.

A Shared Wish: "I Want to Meet the Chivas" Carlos, Jose Manuel and Diego
Provided By Ambito

When the Make A Wish Foundation approached Carlos, 18; Jose Manuel, 6; and Diego, 16; who are victims of cancer, and asked separately what was their greatest wish, the three of them had one vision: "To meet the Chivas".

After lots of preparations by everyone involved, the three valiant young men were summoned for a very special day. They did not quite know what to expect, but they did show up, very excited, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Mexico City World Trade Center.

They all enjoyed a delicious dinner and sumptuous desserts, compliments of the Crowne Plaza; and anxiously looked at the clock. At last, the time came: the doors opened and right before them, one by one, the members of the soccer team Chivas appeared and came to greetthem. Their greatest idols had come to meet them. Their faces glimmered, their eyes shone like they probably do once in a lifetime.

They couldn't believe what was going on before their eyes. Being in the presence of their favorite soccer players was the biggest thrill ever. And when it seemed it couldn't get any better, the players presented each of them with their second favorite thing. A laptop computer for Carlos, donated by MAW Volunteer Elynor; for Jose Manuel, not only the red bicycle he dreamed of, but the official Chivas red bicycle; and for Diego, the Play Station he wanted to help him through hard times. Both items were donated by Antonio Cacheux, Purchasing General Manager for Marti.

The kids were having their pictures taken with every player they could, they collected autographs, and they looked at the players in disbelief. What a thrill it was to be this close to them, what joy to receive the presents their families could not afford and to be surrounded by so many generous people who set it all up for them. Carlos lives in Cuautla, Morelos, and was additionally invited by the Mexico City Marriott Hotel and ate at the Hard Rock Café, he received royal treatment and everyone made him feel special.

Each of the young boys received a box seat ticket to watch the game the next day, as the Chivas faced the Pumas.

The three valiant kids had their dreams come true, but what’s more, they forgot their illnesses and for one day they were happy kids, and returned home with a heart full of hope and strength. The families were also very excited to watch what was going on, and celebrated with the kids’ happiness. Once more, it can be said that when wills come together, nothing is impossible!

Our appreciation goes to Club Deportivo Guadalajara – Chivas – Lorena Gómez Haro; Crowne Plaza Hotel Ciudad de México; Hotel J W Marriott; Hard Rock Café, Ciudad de México; Sr. Antonio Cacheux, MAW Volunteers: Elynor Hernández, Mary Carmen Sésar, Eva Salgado and Mariana Elías.

Thank you for helping us make the difference!
