In a press conference celebrated at La Petite France restaurant, its owner, Mr. Nacho Cadena, organizing member of the Wine Fest, advised us of the following regarding the preparations for the Second Wine Fest in Puerto Vallarta :
More than a spectacular gastronomic event where around 20 restaurants will offer their best wine menus, pairing degustation menus and the assertive work of almost twenty of the country’s best sommeliers, brought together on this occasion under the name “Wine Fest” to be held in Puerto Vallarta on February 27, 28 29 and March 1º. It will be a high impact cultural celebration in our community.
The Wine Fest is an authentic wine celebration, and it is mainly the restaurants who will be in charge of its success. There will be two training centers offering specialized courses, free of charge, to employees of hotels and restaurants as well as wine enthusiasts interested in a better knowledge on the culture of wine. We know that a touristic destination operates better when its service staff is kept updated and especially when there is a consciousness of the importance of guests’ satisfaction when they return to their places of origin. Training is an activity that must be carried on consistently and the Wine Fest is doing its part by holding these courses.
There will be two Masters’ Conferences and a forum dealing with the culture of wine, all of these to be carried by world renown personalities of the wine industry, among them Chemical Engineer Pedro Poncelis, dean of the Mexican sommeliers and mentor of a great number of professionals; Mr. Toscani, a most prestigious Italian sommelier, as well as Mr. Daniel Milmo owner of Casa Madero, the oldest American winery in America.
Cultural Impact
Beyond the specialized themes, the festival will bring to our city events of relevant cultural importance; its musical side will feature three attractive concerts:
•  Pneumus Group
Presentation of the Group Pneumus, an intense and surreal multimedia experience ingeniously musicalized with rhythms of the 20's, from the swing and the polka, to the cha-cha-cha and mambo, showcasing cultural crossbreeding as a people integrating phenomenon and a factor of enrichment for the world’s cultures. The silent-movie style journey with live sound where the public takes part in the performance is one of Mexico’s most original proposals and has achieved great success.
• Siglos Pasados (Past Centuries)
A concert with music from the middle ages will be performed by Professor Enrique Flores’ group Siglos Pasados. With Siglos Pasados, we can admire antique western musical instruments as well as some from the near east in virtue of its influence on the development of European music. The flute, viola da gamba, viola de rueda, bagpipe, kurtal, lute, jew’s harp, crumhorn, drums, tambourines, crotals and other antique instruments characterize the music played by the fine interpreters integrating this group.
Siglos Pasados offers music that reproduces the tones and pitches of the past with great flexibility, playing and improvising the way ancient troubadours and minstrels of the X, XI, XII, XIII and up until the XVII century, and performing with originals and replicas of the instruments of those ages.
• Troker Jazz Group
Sounds of strings, percussions, wind instruments and the scratching of vinyl records fill the music generated by this sextet from Guadalajara, Jalisco. Troker’s musical proposal lies within the rhythmic possibilities of funk, break beats, where the bass-drums basis supports the rest of the instruments in songs structured for the opportunity of improvisation and divertimento.
Literature: In the literary field, the Wine Fest will be the culmination and awards for the First Wine Poetic Contest, with the participation of writers from seven different states of the Mexican Republic.
Photography: Within this field, the results of the Photography Contest with wine themes, including the participation of nationwide photographers, professionals and amateurs.
Visual Arts: On the field of visual arts there will be two large exhibitions, one of paintings and sculptures presented by Centro 10 Group, formed by renowned artists from the central part of the country; these have enjoyed great success in the city of León, Guanajuato. There are also great expectations from the results of the young painters’ contest whose main attribute is having painted works with wine themes using wine as paint, instead of oils, acrylics or watercolors.
The importance and significance of the Wine Fest lies deep within this cultural and multi-disciplinary exhibition that has aroused the attention of many other cities where this Puerto Vallarta Gala Wine Fest going from February 27, 28, 29 and March 1° is being promoted.
Popular Impact
The Wine Fest is an event by all Vallartenses, for the enjoyment of all locals and an added attraction for our national and international visitors.
 The Grand Finale will consist in a popular party to be held at Lázaro Cárdenas Park, where the tasting of wine and hors d’oeuvres will be surrounded by a grand ambiance of music and dance. It is worth mentioning that the events, concerts, masters’ conferences, degustations and courses will be totally free of charge.
There is a great interest on this event in the part of the Cultural Ministry of the State of Jalisco and its support has been a determinant factor putting together all this series of cultural events to be enjoyed by the city during the days of the Wine Fest.
