A Brunch far beyond a simple combination of breakfast and lunch
|
Sunday, November 16th was a gorgeous day, as it boringly is from November to May included, seven months of absolute paradise weather.
And it was the turn of Villa del Palmar at Flamingos to offer the traditional Sunday Brunch celebrating the International Gourmet Festival.
They set up a huge poolside tent flanked by gardens where an infinite array of artistic dishes sprouted like fresh and colorful tropical blossoms; fruits from the gardens of Puebla, Oaxaca, Michoacán and Veracruz, the four Mexican states that were chosen to host this special day.
It was impossible to sample everything, it would have taken several pleasant tasting days, but the sights were far beyond what we are used to see in a buffet. In fact, this article should be one of images; I hope our editor can include as many as possible to give you a clearer idea of this feat, and credit to the guys at Villa del Palmar for their extraordinary achievement.
A strings chamber orchestra was playing; this made for a kind of relaxation that works magic for digestion; I personally went through a five-course brunch that felt like a light breeze. For locals and tourists alike who are accustomed to savoring a Sunday brunch this was a welcome addition, just imagine, this time served by the International Gourmet Festival? Who can beat that?
There were also performers who moved among the guests doing contortions, costumed dances, statues and more.
Savoring all of this at fourteen, not yet having come of age, I believe we are some kind of gastronomy prodigy child, willing to share his magic with all those willing to surrender to it. Email to a friend Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo
