During the festivities of our last Gourmet Festival, there was creativity and innovation; besides the Gourmet Theatre where some of the mostrenowned international invited chefs prepared some of their favorite recipes for the general public to see and learn, on November 20, on the new malecón that extends from the open air theatre to the pedestrian bridge, next to the delicious Vitea restaurant, Ulrich Schwartz, Vice-President of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences inaugurated the “Chefs Hall of Fame”. This new area is presided by a bronze statue of San Pascual Bailón, considered the patron saint of restaurateurs, the statue is a creation of our local sculptor Ramiz Barquet.
The chefs honored in the Hall of Fame are: the late Swiss chef Roger Dreier, who ran his cozy restaurant “Chef Roger” downtown for over twenty years, I recall seeing him in his kitchen preparing and surveying each plate prepared there. Everything was top quality and delicious! A portion of his huge heart going into everything he did.
Chef Alejandro Heredia, one of the Mexican chefs who has received more international recognitions was also honored with a special plate.
And Thierry Blouet, owner and chef of Café des Artistes; Thierry has graciously shared his extensive gastronomic knowledge with all in Vallarta and deserves credit for having played a key role in placing Puerto Vallarta as the top gastronomic destination of Mexico.
Mr. Schwartz’ idea of honoring the chefs of the world is also worthy of praise; painters and writers leave behind their works for all to admire, but those chefs that treat our senses with creative and delicious moments of joy will now be honored at our Chefs’ Hall of Fame and more added yearly at our November Vallarta Gourmet Festival.
