La Palapa Restaurant and Lounge - With the Sea at my Feet
By Jesus de Avila - October, 2007. |

As we approached the restaurant, the sound of live Bossa nova played by a wonderful duo welcomed us to the most prestigious romantic restaurant with lounge ambiance in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, La Palapa.
Once there, everything about the restaurant captivates your senses. The dining area is a spacious terrace with a magnificent ocean view and is emblematic of the tropical dimension that distinguishes the restaurant from its very origins. We chose a table in the stretch ofbeach infront of the restaurant.
Westartedoff by ordering tropical seasonal fruit cocktails, and as we looked at the menu we were presented with “Salmon filled biscuit with adelicious cilantro sauce”,compliments from the chef.
After being filled in as to the preparation of some of the dishes, wedecided to share our appetizers, the exotic, “Portobello and shrimp salad fresh mango, baby mix, arugula, mint and tamarind vinaigrette”. as well the “Shrimp vegetables and onion tempura with tamarind dipping sauce”.
Montserrat ordered for main course a “Salmon oriental sauce, mashed potato, sweet red pepper, spinach and hoisin sauce”, which definitely seduced us and allowed us to confirm that the kitchen’s creativity is the basis for a restaurant’s success. I, in turn, had “Sea Bass with macadamia crust, leek confit and guanabana sauce”, another original recipe where the exact combination of ingredients accompanying the crunchy sea bass, flood the taste buds with an exotic, sweet flavor I had never even imagined.

All about La Palapa is proof of the devotion to offer top quality meals and service. However, beyond the gastronomic considerations, every paradigm is broken by the restaurant’s location at Los Muertos Beach. Believe me when I say that there is nothing to compare to the sensation of enjoying a succulent dinner while you watch the rolling waves caress the beach as the sun goes down on the horizon, and you sense the salty aroma of the ocean carried by the humid breeze that moistens your face.
La Palapa Restaurante & Lounge is located on 103 Pulpito St. Colonia Emiliano Zapata, in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. Open every day 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. Reservations at: 222-5225.
