Thomas Newsted, born in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up in Tampa, Florida. First began his career in the kitchen at the age of 13 in a small-quaint restaurant, The French Connection in Biloxi, Mississippi. There he worked as a dishwasher and all around kitchen helper. Thomas found his niche and passion for the restaurants later in life after hisfour-year active tenure in the United States Marine Corps. Upon obtaining an Associates Degree in Occupational Skills at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, Thomas relocated to Vail, Colorado.
In December of 2000, Thomas began to work at the Lodge at Vail in the Wildflower Restaurant (Mobil Four-Star Rated). Shortly after, Thomas was promoted to Sous Chef, becoming the Chef de Cuisine, where the Wildflower retained its Mobil Four-Star rating. Chef Thomas took charge of the culinary team at Game Creek on November 2003-2006. Currently, Thomas Newsted is the Executive Chef and Co-owner of ZaccaZa restaurant at the Traer Creek Plaza in Avon, Colorado.
During his spare time, Thomas enjoys reading, snowshoeing, exercising and teaches part-time at the local Colorado Mountain College.
