One of the best places to enjoy
excellent Mexican cuisine is without a doubt Kaiser Maximilian (formerly called
Café Maximilian). Sober and elegant, with an atmosphere reminiscent of
Austrian restaurants of yesteryear, with large mirrors, stained and etched glass
and fine wood details. Small and very intimate, with first quality service, pleasant
and friendly waiters under the tutelage of a renowned chef, winner of many national
and international awards, and creator of marvelous dishes - with a Mexican touch.
These dishes have become a tradition during this month of September as Maximilian's
celebrates the Month of the Nation. And what dishes they are! Among
the soups is the cream of chile poblano with corn and cheese that is nothing short
of exquisite. It is one of those dishes that must be included year after year
during this month of September, because the clients demand it. The same goes for
main dishes. Among the most often requested is the filet of red snapper with shrimp
wrapped in hoja santa, with a ragoût of fruit and tender corn, and a sauce
of anis and chile cascabel, unique in flavor as well as in presentation. There
are many other fabulous dishes in Maximilian's special September menu and this
establishment's gifted chef uses a large variety of chilies -they appear in nearly
all the dishes- very well prepared to satisfy the taste of our visitors while
taking advantage of the flavor they bring to food but leaving aside their more
well-known spicy characteristics Mexicans love so much. And don't worry, all the
dishes on the "regular" incredible menu are still available. And
then of course, there are the desserts
but those you'll just have to sample
yourselves! Maximilian's is also very Mexican when it
comes to drinks (last year there was a special Margarita named "Carlota"
in honor of the Empress of México, Carlota Amalia, wife of Maximilian of
Hapsburg. It was a combination of Tequila with Controy, lime juice and blueberry,
with a little Sprite. We must confess that we did not check if they are offering
it this time around
In any case, all are delights
that whet the appetite to enjoy Kaiser Maximilian's delicious dishes... with a
Mexican touch. You may choose to dine outdoors, or indoors where it is air-conditioned.
