Le Kliff Restaurant - A spectacular place with exquisite flavor!

by Jesus de Avila - March 16, 2003.

Following good advice, we made our reservations one day ahead of time to eat at Le Kliff Restaurant, known by its clients as the most romantic place in Puerto Vallarta. According to the Sony Channel, it is one of the most beautiful places in all of Latin America.

After a panoramic ride of fifteen minutes along the highway that links Puerto Vallarta with Manzanillo, we reached the restaurant that is practically burrowed into the mountainside, enjoying the ocean breeze at all times. A few steps from its ample entrance partly covered by the huge palapa roof considered as one of the largest in the world, and which protects the entire restaurant, you suddenly come upon one of the most spectacular views of the Bay that you have ever laid eyes upon! Stunned for a moment, Claudia and I were speechless. As we looked around, to the sides and before us, we felt as if we were floating, or rather as if we were looking over the panorama from a seagull's point of view, soaring through the sky near the mountain. The feeling is unique!

After we were welcomed most cordially, we were shown to our table and when we realized which one it was, we immediately knew that our evening would be just like the view we had from this spot in the restaurant... magnificent!

We felt the cool air caress us. We saw the sun hiding behind the mountains to the south and all the while we were accompanied by the relaxing sounds of the ocean hitting against the rocks constantly bathed by the waves, always enveloped by the jungle that surrounds the restaurant and attracts the seagulls and pelicans that constantly soar through the sky near the restaurant.

During the dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by the exquisite flavors, I delighted myself with some shrimp bathed in a cilantro sauce. It had been years since I had tasted a sauce so savory. I also went on to clean the plate using various slices of bread which I devoured with great joy. Claudia had Le Kliff's deboned chicken, served with a gravy of fresh mushrooms, another succulent flavor.

There is much I would like to describe about Le Kliff, but it would be unfair to take away from the excitement of finding out for yourself. The entire setting is in perfect harmony with nature and that is why it is so spectacular. We confirmed why it is that Le Kliff is the favorite place for weddings, and why it was chosen as the setting for so many movies, TV series and soap operas. After our dinner, we went down to visit the various levels and terraces overlooking the ocean and we got to see some opossums that, according to the owners of the place and depending on the time of year, come down from the mountains in search of food. That night, a large family of them became the center of attention for all the visitors at Le Kliff. Also, between November and March, this is the perfect place for watching the whales that feed in the area, as well as the manta rays and the dolphins.

Service at Le Kliff is excellent and when you consider the place and the size of the portions, the prices are reasonable. Depending on what you order, two adults can enjoy a dinner for an average of $520.00 Pesos [not including drinks]. The cuisine at Le Kliff is international, specializing in seafood. Two of its specialties are the spectacular seafood mixed grill and the incredible carousel of seafood served for two. Except for Mondays, there is live music entertainment from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

If you're looking for an original place where you can enjoy a romantic dinner as the moon stands witness to your declarations of love, or a family dinner that will be etched in your memory forever, then definitely the restaurant Le Kliff is the place to visit.

Le Kliff is a one hundred percent Mexican business that has been operating since 1983. Today, it is run by the members of the Guzmán Gutiérrez family, its owner, whom we sincerely compliment on the place, the concept, the flavors and excellent service.

My recommendations: Bring a camera or a camcoder, between December and April, bring a sweater or something that will protect you from the cool ocean breeze, definitely reserve ahead of time, and don't drink if you're the one driving. Also, ask for information and quotations if you're thinking of organizing or celebrating a wedding or other special event.

Le Kliff is located at 17.5 km. on the southbound highway to Barra de Navidad. Tel.: 228-0666 | 224-0975, for weddings and special events: reserva@lekliff.com
