Bay of Banderas Week
One week of sailboats and lots of fun!...

by Jesus de Avila - Editor of PVMirror.com (Leer versión en español)

Can you imagine the arrival of a rainbow made up of hundreds of sailboats coming into our bay at the same time? Well, here we go!...

November will most definitely be a fantastic month for the Bay of Banderas! The excitement will begin with the prestigious 9th International Gourmet Festival. That will be followed by the traditional 48th Sailfish Tournament on the 20, 21 and 22. That month we will also host the 2nd Vallarta Cup Golf tournament scheduled for the 13, 14 and 15. And that will not be all there is in November! At the Yacht Club at Paradise Village, Sr. Richard [Dick] Markie, Marina Director in Nuevo Vallarta, announced recently that with the support of some of the Bay’s businessmen, the organization has begun for what will be an unprecedented event in the Bay, an event that will serve as a multicolored setting for all the events and tournaments already scheduled as well as those that may yet come!

Richard said that the idea is to take advantage of the inertia of the Baja Ha-Ha Regatta organized by Latitude 38 that is held each year over a 750-mile course from San Diego, California, to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California. After the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, Baja Ha-Ha covers the longest route in the world for an international regatta. Over the last nine years, approximately 900 sailboats and 2,500 crew have participated in it. During that regatta sailboats have to dock in exotic places such as Turtle Bay and Bahía de Santa María. This year, they hope to attract a large number of sailboats starting on November 9th to extend their voyage to Puerto Vallarta in order to provide the finishing touch on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th , in our Bay.

According to the information Richard shared with us, this would be an excellent opportunity for us to make our Bay known to the travelers’ market in a most innovative way, besides representing an additional and substantial source of income for the area for years to come. Thanks to this event, for a number of weeks - and in some cases months - this year, the entire region will benefit.

The plan is that during the week of November 17-23, sailors will continue fulfilling various activities that will enable them to know the strategic points and places within our Bay. All the while they would get to spend time together and get involved with the community. The whole week will be action-filled and one of the main events will be the poker game. The goal of the game is to get the best hand, but in this case instead of everyone sitting down around a poker table to play, they will have to visit various places every day in different parts of the Bay, where the representative of each boat will receive a card in a sealed envelope. The idea is to put all the cards together on the last night -when everyone will indeed be seated at the Yacht Club- as each sailor will open the envelope to show his card to all those gathered.

Bay of Banderas Week

The Concept:
A week filled with activities, promotions and fun around our beautiful bay. Aimed specifically at participants in the Baja Ha-Ha Regatta.

The Date:
Considering the time participants in the Baja Ha-Ha Regatta will need to recuperate after their last celebration in Los Cabos on November 9th, as well as the time they will need to reach the Bay of Banderas, the best day to start would be November 17th.

Projections:
The purpose is to create an avalanche of participation and ideas that will enable us to increase the passion for this event from year to year while continuing to promote our bay area. If we commit ourselves to offer the best we have to our new visitors, we will ensure that the “Bay of Banderas Week” will become a tradition thus generating income for the entire region.
