Ji Feng is 44 years old and he has devoted more than half of his life to cooking.
Born in China, this Chef came to Mexico 7 years ago and fearlessly decided to
settle in Guadalajara where he set up his restaurant. A couple of years later,
he took a trip to Vallarta and decided to make it his new place of residence.
Now he feels at home. Nevertheless, he does manage to return to his native land
once a year when he takes his yearly holidays. The menu at
Pekin Restaurant Bar Steak House is different from other places that offer Oriental
cuisine. For example, among the appetizers, one can choose Sesame Shrimp accompanied
by jicama and bathed in a sesame sauce or a Beijing Salad made with Romaine lettuce,
watermelon, onion and tomatoes. Among the soups, you could
enjoy various types, but the most complete is the Mandarin Soup, a savory consommé
with crabmeat, chicken and egg whites. The specialties of the house are the Peking
Duck accompanied by crêpes with chives, cucumber and plum sauce, the Crispy
Fish, an exquisite whole fish that is more than enough for two people, the Fu
Run Abalone served with white wine and bamboo shoots among other ingredients,
and the Peking Lobster, sautéed in a garlic sauce with soya and white wine. If
you want to try something simpler, there are also seafood dishes, fowl and fine
cuts of meat, but you really should try the sweet and sour Pineapple Shrimp which
has become a favorite due to its unequalled flavor. Or if you prefer, you could
ask for the Kum Pao combination dish that includes bits of chicken breast, beef
and shrimp with peanuts, soya, chilies and white wine. Pekin
Restaurant Bar Steak House is located on the south side of town, in the Zona Romantica
of Olas Altas, at 136 Francisca Rodriguez St., tel.: 222-8609, open every day
from noon to midnight. Archives
