An innocent robbery was the story behind the arrival
of Mr. Lou Foote, a native from Aptos, California,
to Puerto Vallarta on July 20, 1938. a group of teenagers,
none of them older than sixteen, stole Foote's private
yacht from his hometown. The teenagers had planned
a sailing adventure to South America traveling on the
Pacific Ocean. To their misfortune, the yacht broke
down near Vallarta. They ran out of food, water and
fuel. Puerto Vallarta was their only choice.
The authorities were called in to inspect the boat
and to hold the teenagers for investigations. The youngsters
tried to mislead Customs agents saying they were going
to Balboa, Panama, to deliver they yacht to an uncle.
Not only missing to all Ports of Entry.
Mexican authorities arrested
the teenagers. Once they confessed, Señor
Foote was notified immediately. He flew on his private
plane accompanied by a representative of the United
States Embassy.
Señor Foote was a kind-hearted
man. Instead of pressing charges against the teenagers,
he took them back home and made them works as sailors
on board his yacht.
The beautiful of Vallarta
captivated Señor
Foote. He thought Vallata was a paradise and fell in
love with our town.
Señor Foote went back
to his homeland only to return with more, visitors.
He was our best spokesman.

Lou Foote visited Vallarta regularly over the years.
He said Vallarta brought him memories that are unforgettable.
Lou made a lot of local friends. He loved Vallarta
and showed it in many ways, as offering his private
plane for emergency trips and also to transport people
who needed medical attention to Guadalajara. He loved
our traditions.
After a few years of knowing him, Lou married Ala
Zaremba, a beautiful, smart Russian lady. When Lou
brought Ala Vallarta for the first time, she was fascinated
and called Vallarta a Conjunction of Wonders.
Ala fell in love with our people and learned Spanish
fast. She found local people warm and hospitable. Ala
was an attractive lady of vivacious personality. She
loved participating in our festivities, music, and
songs. She was also a great dancer who charmed us with
her performances. She was a star!
Those are times to be remembered.
