VALLARTA MEMORIES

First Professional in the Community.

July, 2004
From the Book "Puerto Vallarta My Memories" - [Leer en español]

At the end of March 1939, Doctor Alberto Briseño Montero from Guadalajara moved to Puerto Vallarta. He was the nephew of Roberto, my husband, and came to open his practice in Vallarta. He stayed with us while he settle into his new practice. Our house was only a few feet away from the Malecon.

The first morning at breakfast, Alberto complained he couldn't sleep all night due to the sound of the ocean waves. He was a city person who never experienced this before.

Doctor Briseño lived with us in Vallarta for a year. He was a good doctor and captivated the heart of a few local young women who found him kind and handsome. He left Vallarta for a short time and returned of September 15, 1940.

When Alberto came back to live with us, I was trying to show off, redecorating his bedroom. I especially made a large wooden frame box that would serve as a closet. The sides ere made of gauze of the dove given to me by my friend, Lupita de Romero. The bedroom looked nice when I finished decorating it. But, alas! I didn't know crickets had nested in the closet. On the first night, crickets kept Alberto up all night serenading him. I felt bad when he told me he couldn't sleep, but we took the situation lightheartedly and ended having a good laugh.

After Alberto went back to Guadalajara, he become a successful cardiologist specialist. He worked for the Mexican Social Security for a long time.

Briseño retired but continued his practice in Guadalajara City. He was well known for caring for his patients and for having a big heart. He dedicated his life in full to his profession.

Alberto married and raised a big family. Some of his local patients continued their health maintenance traveling to Guadalajara to see him. The people from our society have never forgotten the kind, big-hearted doctor.
