The inauguration of Hidalgo Park took place on May 8, 1954. Our Mayor unveiled a statue in honor of Reverend Hidalgo. The bottom of the statue had a plaque marking the CCI (Two Hundred and one) anniversary of Hidalgo’s birth date.
Dr. Manuel Baumgarten Joya was the program organizer. Attorney, Señor Luis Páez Puerta, gave a speech at the opening ceremony.
In July the same year, Mayor of Vallarta Señor J. Jesús Palacios Robles died in a plane accident when taking some prisoners to Guadalajara city. The plane crashed at Cerro Del Cabro (Goat’s Mountain,) a mountain of approximately 2000 meters height. There were no survivors. Palacios died before he finished his tenure as a Mayor. The bodies recovered from the plane crash were burnt beyond recognition.
The local people mourned his death and those of the other crash victims. May they rest in Peace.
