A new route between Mascota and San Sebastian, 1956 |
|
The Mayor was Señor Gabriel Nuño Vicencio. His tenure lasted there years.
Among the public works that Nuño directed were la Pérgola at Hidalgo Park, with new white and comfortable benches and beautiful landscaping, and pavement of a large area of Malecón.
Our State Governor, Attorney, Señor Agustin Yañez, visited Vallarta for a second time on June 4, 1956. He came to the inauguration ceremony of the new dirt road of the new dirt road route by car. Señor Deputy Doctor Manuel Baumgarten Joya and other politicians accompanied him.
To celebrate the event ceremoniously, we organized a big Mexican Fiesta with an outside dance floor at Aquiles Serdá Park.
All the local socialites, such as the Mantecóns, the Contreras, the Godinezes, and our first lady, Sarita de Nuño, among others, attended the dance. It was a big hit!
At the party, there was an assigned table for all the important politicians aside from the general public. In the beginning the atmosphere was tense, as the politicians felt uncomfortable separated from sharing the public ambiance.
I suggested to my nephew, Oscar Rosales, a debutant in politics, to invite the dignitaries to join the crowd.
The politicians accepted gladly. It was nice to see our own State Governor step aside from the protocol and join the dance.
The Mantecón sisters sang beautifully. Ala de Foote, a dear friend, who was vacationing, delighted us dancing to Russian folkloric tunes.
