Señor Salvador Cordero, General Manager of Hotel Paraíso, founded the Lions Club on November 2, 1958. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Ballroom of Paraíso Hotel.
The Board of Directors of the new Lion’s Club were, Señor Alfonso Uribe, President, Adolfo Curiel Quintero, Secretary, Cecilio Becerra, President of Banco de Comercio, and Treasurer.
The first Queen of the Lions Club was Señorita Victoria Curiel Montes. The State Governor, Professor Juan Gil Preciado, Crowned her in a ceremony. Her maids of honor were señorita, Ana Rosa Camacho and Lucinda Nuño. The ceremony took place at the lions Club Salon, where Las Margaritas restaurant is at present.

Over the years the lions Club has amply benefited the community though several projects such as offering medical services for the blind, and building two elementary schools. The Club has now its own building.
