VALLARTA MEMORIES

Inauguration of Compostela-Puerto Vallarta-Barra de Navidad Highway

From the book "Puerto Vallarta My Memories" - December 2006 - Leer en español

In 1958, the Secretariat of Public Works started the construction of highway that World connect the three towns of Compostela, Puerto Vallarta and Barra de Navidad. The State Governor was Attorney Agustín Yañez.

In the beginning of the 1960s decade, the access to this area was limited presented a flooding problem to all vehicles every rainy season. Although tow trucks and tractors were often called during monsoon season, some trailer drivers had to wait until the washes went down to be towed.

In 1963, passenger buses started offering services to travelers. Our old tropical open passenger buses were discontinued. The first bus line was Pacific Transportation. Señor Justo Villela from Guadalajara introduced daily “if weather permitted” second-class bus passenger service. Tha tickets were purchased at Hotel Chula Vista. Local lady, Señora Cuca Montes, and her daughter, Paulita, have been the ticket agents for Pacific Transportation over 18 years. In 1965 pacific Transportation moved their location to Insurgentes Street at Emiliano Zapata colony.
