In 1960 the Mayor of Vallarta was Señor Don Juan Martinez Perales. The Vice President was Señor Salvador Peña Daválos. We were honored to receive the visit of the Ambassador of the United States, Mr. Robert Hill. The Ambassadors of Brazil and Peru accompanied him. The important personalities arrived by plane from the United States. At tha same time, a warship from the U.S.A. dropped anchor in our Bay.
The personalities were welcome at Vena de Santa María airport by local authorities. Among the welcome committee were Captain of Harbormaster’s Capitan Jesús Espinoza, and others. There was a small reception at Los Muertos Beach for our guests. Señor Salvador Peña Dávalos took the personalities on a Vallarta Jeep tour.
The Ambassadors stayed at Hotel Rosita. Señorita Teresa Barba Palomera, who was the Deputy of the School District during the three-year tenure of our Mayor Juan Martinez Perales, organized a series of events followed by a catered event.
The were a series of events organized in honor of the ambassadors, which included folkloric dances performed by the students of 15 de Mayo School for Girls, plus singing by Toya Godínez de Ulloa. She sang a popular Mexican tune, Pajarillo Pecho Amarillo. Local dame “La Prieta” Siordia danced the Iguana.
The United Status Ambassador enjoyed very much his visit to Vallarta. He loved our people and traditions. We were delighted to see him return there more times within the same year.
