VALLARTA MEMORIES

Televisa Network films in Vallarta, 1976
From the book "Puerto Vallarta My Memories " - April 2008

On March 14, 1976, Televisa network came to Puerto Vallarta to film Siempre en Domingo, (Ever on Sunday) a combination of talent, documentary, and cultural show. Siempre en Domingo filmed each region of the Mexican Republic, its traditions, its people, dances, sightseeing, etc, and interviewed people from each people they filmed. The Master of Ceremonies was famous television personality M.C. Raúl Velasco.

Attorney Jesus Jimenez Luevanos, sub-delegate of State and Federal Tourism, attorney State Governor Alberto Orozco Romero and other government agencies sponsored the program. The program aired internationally.

There was a craft fair at the main Plaza. All the local artisans, including my grandson, Juan Moll, displayed their crafts to be filmed for the program. Manuel Lepe, a renowned local artist, displayed his original coconut rings. The owners of Huaracheria Lety displayed their famous sandals. The local clothing designers displayed their original embroidered garments typical of Vallarta. The plaza was crowded with artisans displaying everything, from handbags to seashells. All products were originally handmade in Vallarta. The Main Plaza turned into a beautiful collage of colors.

Attorney Jesus Jimenez Luévanos invited my husband, Roberto, and me for a personal interview with Señor Velasco. We were considered a main source of information on history and development of this city.

We met at the main Plaza to interview with Don Raul. He asked us to sit next to him by the garden area. Famous Mexican singer Victor Iturbe, Piruli, was also with us. We talked, laughed and joked with Raul.

Señor Velasco also interviewed mayor of Vallarta Señor José Baumgarten joya. After the interview, the camera crew went to Posada Vallarta Hotel for a Fashion show. My daughter, Yolanda, spoke on television about the origins of the fashion in Vallarta.

The conlusión of Ever on Sunday program was the introduction of beautiful Señorita Tourismo, Elsa Margarita Ramirez Landeros, a local young lady.

After a few weeks, we were anxious to watch the program on television. We sat on font of the TV set on the day the program would be aired. Unfortunately, the transmission was faulty, static, and we lost the signal fro the antenna. Even though we were disappointed, we were happy that the program was aired both in Mexico and United States. Many people would have the opportunity to see how beautiful was Vallarta. Email to a friend.
