Catalina Montes de Oca Aguilar was born in San
Gabriel, Jalisco, Mexico on April 30, 1900. Her family moved to Guadalajara when
she was very young. She was fifteen years old when her mother moved the family
to Mexico City. At the age of eighteen, she married Roberto Contreras Quintero
from Mascota, Jalisco. Roberto resided in Puerto Vallarta since 1916. Doña
Catalina arrived in Vallarta as a newlywed on May 12, 1918. She raised a big family
of five children, seventeen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She
accomplished a long desired dream of writing a history book about Puerto Vallarta.
The book was titled "Puerto
Vallarta en mis Recuerdos". The book became a dream come true for the
author, as well as a great source of the history of life and tremendous development
of this city. Doña Catalina was named first columnist
and reporter for the City. Doña Cata died on September
4, 1986. She left behind a heritage of love and pride. Her presence is felt in
each page of her beloved book. Read
