At the sugestión of Señor Agustín
Flores, the City government started the construction
of the Malecón project. The valuable contribution
of young Mayor of Vallarta, Gilberto González,
other City officials, and people from the community,
made the completion of the Malecón possible.
On May 25, 1935, Señor, Don Pedro Salazar Rosado,
took charge of the Harbormaster offices. Prior to his
arrival, there was not a Harbormaster facility. The
increased traffic of ships and other related activities
made necessary to build the new facility. Señor
Salazar Rosado applied to the Marine Secretariat of
México for a permit to build the new Harbormaster
offices. The approval took a long time to be processed
by the Marine Secretariat. Meanwhile, Captain Salazar
Rosado was transferred to the Harbormaster offices
in Acapulco. He returned to Vallarta later in 1943
and resubmitted the application for building the new
offices to the Marine Secretariat. The permit was finally
approved and the construction of the new offices was
finished in 1949.
Vallarta finally had new Harbormaster
offices. The location was next to Aquiles Serdán
Park, right across from the ocean.
On June 1st. 1949, "Día de la Marina" (June
1st is Marine Holiday in México), the local
people paraded to the new offices for the inauguration
celebration. There was a banquet offered in honor of
the marines who atended the celebration with their
families.
Thanks to Captain Salazar, the first geographic landmark
of Puerto Vallarta was drawn.
In 1949, Captain Salazar Rosado was promoted to Public
Works Inspector of Ports.
Captain Antonio Moll Gil was his successor.
