Monday December 1st to Friday 5th, 2008, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
This course will be an overview of many facets of the earth block construction process. The course will be led by Jim Hallock, President of Tierra y Cal, Proyectos Sustentables and Earth Block Inc. Jim has extensive CEB experience. For 15 years, he has been building exclusively with CEBs (compressed earth blocks) and consulting on projects worldwide. Jim will be assisted by Monica Healy, Tierra y Cal’s General Manager. The course will be in English and Spanish.
Class cost includes an Earth Block Construction manual.
Course Schedule:
Monday 1st. – 9:00 A.M.:
Introduction and Theory. Revision of The Earth Block Construction Manual.
Soil selection, material mixing, and pH testing.
Tuesday 2nd – 9:00 A.M.:
Machinery operation: AECT 2001. Earth block production, machinery adjustments, basic formulation for different clays and soils.
Foundation, water leveling, story poles, door bucks and commencement of block stacking.
Wednesday 3rd. – 9:00 A.M.:
Block stacking, electrical installation and bond beam.
Thursday 4th. – 9:00 A.M.:
Roof attachment and low camber, Earth Block barrel vault building.
Friday 5th. – 9:00 A.M.:
Natural plasters, Q and A session, wrap up, diplomas, and party!
Total cost: $3,000 pesos, initial deposit to reserve a space: $1,500.00 pesos
