Reimbursement of IVA (Value Added Tax) to Tourists

YVESAM Retornos Mundiales, is a company founded and authorized by the federal government to handle the IVA tax reimbursement to foreign tourists.
In order to optimize this service’s handling, since May 26 this year YVESAM installed operating units in public areas and boarding gates at the airports of Mexico City, Cancún, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta; other destinations like Guadalajara, Cozumel, Monterrey and León are expected to follow.
The IVA reimbursement process implies four simple conditions:
- IVA reimbursement may be requested on merchandise purchases when these have been obtained by electronic payment in a single establishment or store, representing a minimum transaction of 1200 pesos, IVA included.
- The store must issue the tourist a fiscal statement specifying the amount of purchase broken down to show net and tax amounts.
- The tourist must fill the IVA tax reimbursement form. The process to obtain the format can be found at all YVESAM airport public units, at its webpage, with its promoters and commercial affiliates.
- Once completing these documents (reimbursement request duly filled in and statement with broken down tax) the tourist can then visit the public units to initiate the process and obtain his reimbursement.
