Welcome to the beautiful month of November. Climate has changed and we have enjoyed nights when we have needed a sheet for cover… thank God, we missed that feeling. No doubt the best is yet to come and the first thing you need to know is that according to our systems of statistics monitoring (Urchin), starting last month our portal is being visited and surfed through by an average of over fifty thousand readers monthly. Thank you all, we continue to move ahead with our hearts full of gratefulness and commitment to continue growing. By the way, the Gallery of Pictures of Old Vallarta and the Romantic Zone has already been published and it has been visited by a little more than ten thousand users in approximately twenty days! Again, thank God, for you and our sponsors.
Few things are there as pleasant as visiting the studio of an artist, more so when we talk about the studio of Federico León de La Vega, a master on oil strokes on canvas. While he sketched part of a face with beautiful eyes, I chatted and nosed around discovering some of his latest works, among which I found a small painting with two sailboats… You may ask, what is so special about two boats on a piece of canvas? Well, in this case it’s perspective… I had never seen such scope in a theme like that of this painting. The vessels are seen from above and its depth adds a tridimensional air to it. For a moment I felt myself flying. As in all of Federico’s work each line is warm and precise. A great news is that the Estudio-Café has reopened its doors for the season. Facing the docks in the south side of the Marina of Nuevo Vallarta, the Estudio-Café is the ideal place to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner; always caressed by the pleasant breeze and catered by the warm and friendly service of Lupita, Luli, Victoria and their team. To learn more about the Estudio-Café, its menu, location in the marina of Nuevo Vallarta and schedules please visit their Website at: estudiocafe.net
Some weeks ago on my way to Nuevo Vallarta I decided to stop over at the DECK 12 building, located in front of the Main Pier. I asked for permission to climb up to the twelfth floor to shoot some pictures from up there. In less than ten minutes I was enjoying an extraordinary and beautiful panoramic view decorated by a sleek cruiser! From floor seven the view encompasses a good portion of the central bay area where our beautiful Puerto Vallarta sits, but from the top I could also watch the mountains, their greenery amidst white and gray clouds is simply heart taking. I thank the Lord for his creation and mainly for the privilege of living in this exuberant world corner. Please remember that if you want to know more about DECK 12, you can visit their Website at: deck12.com.mx Thank you very much Sandra Arias, the sales representative who authorized me into their building.
Signs of FOR RENT appear everywhere like never before in our port’s life. Of course it is the clear outcome of the long period of low flow of visitors, though apparently – as per talks with some hotels owners – it will start to subside by mid November. Some small hotels beyond Puerto Vallarta like Cielo Rojo in San Francisco (San Pancho) Riviera Nayarit, the occupancy is expected to be very high in just a few weeks.
And talking about Cielo Rojo, once while visiting the town of San Pancho, my wife and I had the opportunity of being acquainted with it, a very fine experience. It is a charming place from any angle. With just nine well appointed guest rooms, it is a perfect corner to relax away from all outside hubbub only three blocks from the town’s spectacular beach. Cielo Rojo is decorated by some very original antiques and its garden features a picturesque restaurant open to the public, quite popular for its elegant continental breakfasts. To know more about Cielo Rojo please visit their website: hotelcierlorojo.com I take this opportunity to thank Marcelo Couto, the hotel manager who greeted us and warmly catered to us, guiding us on a tour of the hotel.
Something worthy of mention is that right in front of the hotel we were able to meet Mrs. Mara who, according to my wife, is the one who cooks and prepares the most delicious corn on the cob she has had in this region, including of course Puerto Vallarta. I discovered that the secret lies in the constant bath of salt water Mara pours on the corn while it is being cooked. The result is an impressing yellow color grain, tender in the inside though toasted and crunchy on the outside… veeeeeeeeeery tasty. On your next visit to San Pancho you should allow yourself the chance to enjoy the texture and taste of Mrs. Mara’s corn on the cob, and please do not forget to tell Mrs. Mara that we recommended her to you.
On our return to port we stopped over at restaurant Black Forest located in the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Andrea, the owner, as always greeted us with her big smile and told us about the goings on about town and the news about her program of activities for the season, you can also learn about it clicking here. Andrea shared with us some anecdotes worthy of publishing, she promised that she will son send them to us. After our visit we took a little walk in the direction of the new marina; we found out that it keeps moving forward and that the number of available docks keeps rising. Presently the boardwalk by the water at the marina has become quite popular among the locals. Although it was a cloudy afternoon we were able to enjoy one of the town’s distinct evenings.
Back in Puerto Vallarta I found my good friend Gilberto Fernández who invited me to get acquainted with his new business project which turned out to be a magnificent country space by the Banks of the Pitillal River, the ideal place to hold business meetings away from the formal and commonplace offices ambiance; as well as weddings and other social and cultural events. Framed by a natural and fascinating ambiance and just ten minutes away from Marina Vallarta, conveniently tucked away from the racket of the city and sheltered by the exuberance clearly evident through the murmur of the river. The name of the place is Quinta Las Rosas and very soon you will be able to see what a special place it is through its website presently being developed. If you are looking for the perfect space that is out of the ordinary, to celebrate any kind of meeting amidst nature, it will be definitely worth your while to contact Gilberto Fernández at cell phones: 044 322 293-3353 & 322 779-8115 or through his Email address: betoben4@hotmail.com he will assist you personally and take you there to get acquainted with Quinta de Las Rosas.
Great news to all our readers, PVMirror City Paper (weekly version) which we published in PDF format through: http://www.pvmirror.com/citypaper is in print anew and distributed through some spots in town! The support from some business owners has been fundamental in making this come true, satisfying thus a demand that, and we are not exaggerating, thousands of readers had been expressing. Thank God for the opportunity He gives us to again publish it in print! Is it now time for a cup of coffee… and congratulations to its editor.
The International Gourmet Festival of Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit is at our doorstep celebrating 15 years of uninterrupted celebration. The Festival has become an icon of our destination and no doubt it continues to bring about added richness to our port’s gastronomy. More than a festival, it is a cultural encounter that, apart from promoting our destination globally, generates great expectations every year, more and new restaurants strive to participate. The magnitude of the prestige this annual event brings to our town is unfathomable; you learn something from it every day, I dare to call it “the international gastronomic university in Mexico” it gives the most to the culinary enrichment and the consolidation of gastronomic service professionalism in our region. To get to know the participating restaurants and the festival’s program please click here.
Ada Colorina with her rural studio and gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Federico León de La Vega with his estudio-café in Nuevo Vallarta, in the Riviera Nayarit, and José Baldí, participating actively in both destinations, can be considered, each one by their style, as the most prominent painters that have independently stood out for continuing to create works that contribute to our destination being considered a cradle and home to magnificent artists. The works of these artists are among the best bought and, for once in February 2010 they will be showing works prepared exclusively for an exhibition where they will participate together for the first time! The exhibit will be open to the public for several weeks and its inauguration will be an unprecedented event in our destination, attended only by art collectors with a personalized invitation. The list of the “elite” to be invited is being presently prepared and the exhibition, as it looks, promises to be the highlights of social and cultural events in 2010. We will soon be able to tell you the dates of the exhibit.
Talking about art, let me tell you that twelve renowned Vallartense artists who have their studios in the downtown area of the city, working independently from the gallery circuit, have organized in a great effort to open the gates to their workshops and studios to the general public at least once a month. The purpose, besides directly showing and selling their art, is to come in closer contact with visitors and the local population. In view of the lack of museums and public spaces in Puerto Vallarta, this is an initiative on the part of the twelve artists so that art is shared and impregnated into the community. The participating artists are: Cathy Von Roh, Fernando Sanchez Aceves, Luis Fransisco Martinez Medina, Javier Niño Rodríguez, José Marca, Angeline Kyba, Ireri Topete, Edward Alejandre, Ada Colorina, Cecilia Bojorquez and Saul Alascedo. For more information please contact painter Fernando Sánchez at cell phone: 044 322 111-0667, or via Email at: lamalagua@hotmail.com Hooray for this proposal that shares our full support and participation.
Finally, I will comment that thank God creativity is the day’s call, two weeks ago we launched a new project called PV-Pot “Space Distinction”, a new decorative concept (pots decorated by hand) ideal for enriching interior or exterior spaces in homes, offices, hotels, ballrooms, plazas, hospitals, or others where people move through, interact, wait, establish relationships or just relax. Every pot created by PV-Pot is a unique piece that by itself captures the attention of whoever has it within eyesight, immediately generating a genuine curiosity to come closer and touch it due to the style of its designs and color combinations. Every PV-Pot piece is the perfect and original gift or souvenir for an occasion like Christmas, Birthdays, Thanksgiving, Weddings, Incentive, Graduation, Host, Recognition, among others.
