WHAT'S NEW IN VALLARTA

Chronicle… naturally

By Jesús de Avila • Translation by Eduardo Rincón-Gallardo • December 2009

We will naturally start sharing our warmest wishes that this be the most blessed and loving Christmas you have ever experienced. Celebrating the birth of Jesus our Savior is reason for joy, but reflecting deeper into His message, this is the most beautiful and powerful opportunity to bring harmony to our hearts, firstly with God; as well as with all of those with who for any reason our relationship was damaged or extinguished.

We do know that no passage in the Bible invites us to celebrate the birth of Jesus ―but his death and resurrection― however, in Mexico it is also one of the most beautiful traditions we share and one occasion that brings families together. To mention just one example, this time of the year people travel thousands of miles in order to share, be it just for a few days, with their relatives. This is a very moving proof of the great love and good wishes that permeate overall due to this beautiful celebration.  Even many non-believers feast and are touched by Christmas. So let’s take this chance to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

cronicaI will never tire from talking about how spectacularly beautiful Vallarta is before and after the rainy season. Driving to Mismaloya with the aim of reaching El Edén, all the greenery of the mountains that end in rocky formations, facing the mighty ocean that caresses them with roaring white foam that rises and converts into mist. That is the indescribably beautiful proof of the greatness of God and how privileged our port is. El Edén is a restaurant and an ecologic space located at the end of a dirt road that starts in the small and picturesque town of Mismaloya, approximately 25 minute ride by car through the mountainside following the riverbed; the location is perfect for relaxation and an invigorating bath in the cool crystal waters of the river that, thanks to the large rock formations, forms large pools that can be enjoyed free of charge. Although the restaurant owns the concession to the place, food and beverage consumption is not mandatory, however, to reach the river you must go through the restaurant and therefore you cannot take food and beverages through. It has been sometime I had not visited the place and was surprised to see that you can now do the canopy zip line out there too. The road is safe and walking it is also recommended.

cronica As happens every year, the International Gourmet Festival carried on raising all kinds of expectations. Twenty six privileged restaurants participated in this edition of the festival and all were recognized for their unique and special characteristics. From my own perspective, what is the most relevant aspect of this wonderful annual festival is the learning experience and the influences it leaves behind. Cultures from different corners of the world gather here to form together an extraordinary culinary mosaic that always brings along the benefits of an efficient promotion of the destination formed by  Puerto Vallarta and the  Riviera Nayarit. What sometimes appears to be unachievable due to the conflicting interest between the two destinations sharing beautiful Banderas Bay, the Gourmet Festival has managed with the sole interest shared by all which is to prepare, show, and experience flavors and aromas from the world over, amidst a context of hard work and a rigorous commitment to excellence, lots of happiness and a passion for good cuisine, dining and degustation. The festival was just over and they are already preparing for next year! Our thanks and congratulations to all participants and sponsors who make this event possible year after year, and once again thanks to its founders who are tirelessly promoting our wonderful and tasty destination. This year my wife and I had the opportunity to enjoy the Chef’s table at The River Café restaurant and it made an absolutely unforgettable experience.

The most prestigious fishing tournament being celebrated in Mexico was also held in November; the International Marlin and Sailfish Fishing Tournament of Puerto Vallarta in its 54th edition. The uproar generated by the tournament, besides the prizes, is one of the reasons why this event keeps bringing more participants and observers every year. The comradeship and warm hospitality always present is to be commended in a tournament of international participation, one where the catch is abundant and important countrywide. Congratulations to the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta A. C. and all its members, ultimately responsible for the organization of this annual event placing our port as the number one fishing destination in our country. See you at the next fishing tournament!

cronica This time we close this column reflecting on the learning experience amidst great struggle generated by some external factors as well as incorrect management and focus; Puerto Vallarta went through a tough year, but full of new opportunities too. When I say new I mean opportunities that no one could even imagine. This year creativity has been the call of the day and thank God, economic recuperation —although slowly— continues moving forward.

This year was that of the financial crisis in the United States affecting us directly, and that of the influenza virus that changed the world’s perspective in a matter of days! On the other side it was also the year of reconciliation and a new beginning, recuperating values that had not been forgotten, yet we had placed them in an old trunk with beautiful memories of the typical, picturesque, simple and warm town of Puerto Vallarta. Thank God because He is in absolute control of everything and has enabled us to carry on through all that happened. He is the only one who knows exactly where everything begins and ends. It is our duty to try to live with plenitude and productively, doing right what is our due, but this time with the purpose of honoring Him, because at the end everything is His creation and we and all belong to Him. I am sure that when all of this is sown into everyone’s heart the productivity results and genuine growth as a touristic destination will be extraordinary and, most of all, a blessing to all.

Thank you all for your loyalty to our PVMirror, please receive our warm embrace with our commitment to continue ahead always striving to contribute to making your visit to our port enriching and unforgettable. Thanks to all our collaborators who put their efforts into delivering their best with the sole purpose of sharing and connecting you with our people through their collaborations. Thanks to all and each of our sponsors, very specially this year in spite of all difficulties and struggle, they kept their firm support to continue to make all of this possible.

God bless your lives and fill your hearts with His indescribable peace. Merry Christmas and the greatest blessings for the New Year 2010.Email to a friend

See you next year!
